Deep in the heart of Nepal, The Pavilions Himalayas, an eco-luxury retreat, stands as more than just a haven for travelers—it is a beacon of hope for local communities. In partnership with its nonprofit organization, Right4Children (R4C), the resort has been transforming lives in the Pokhara region for over a decade through impactful social programs. The latest impact report highlights another year of meaningful change, underscoring their unwavering dedication to sustainable community development.

One of the standout achievements of the year is the completion of the five-year Child-Friendly School project, which has enhanced educational opportunities for more than 14,000 students. Additionally, a newly introduced anti-trafficking initiative has reached over 4,400 young women and girls, providing essential support, rehabilitation, and pathways to a safer future.

Douglas Maclagan, Founder of Right4Children and The Pavilions Himalayas, commented “In the previous year’s Annual Review, Insuba and I were able to report on the first 11 years’ progress and positive impact of Right4Children. This year, we can celebrate its most successful year yet, in terms of reaching target communities, and the size and number of projects we’ve been able to implement. Alongside renewed commitments from previous funding partners, we attracted support from new collaborators.”

Nepal sees a significant transformation in education and community development through the efforts of The Pavilions Himalayas and Right4Children. The five-year Child-Friendly School (CFS) project successfully concluded in late 2023, benefiting 26 community schools in the Kaski District and Pokhara region. The initiative directly supported 4,666 children and 2,165 parents while providing specialized training for 469 teachers. Additionally, 1,821 students participated in dental health camps, and 1,188 engaged in art workshops, enriching their learning experiences. The project also introduced advanced digital learning resources, including computers, projectors, and televisions, alongside infrastructure upgrades that improved classrooms, furniture, flooring, and lighting, indirectly benefiting another 6,700 individuals. To further promote child development, CFS introduced Right2Run, a program led by British athlete Emily Shaw, encouraging physical activity for personal growth. A two-year follow-up support initiative will ensure continued progress for students and schools. Expanding its commitment to educational excellence, Right4Children launched the School Improvement for Quality Assurance and Enhancement in Education (SIQAEE) project in 2024, supported by Luxembourg-based nonprofit ONGD-FNEL. This initiative is dedicated to transforming community schools in Hupsekot and Baudikali Rural Municipalities in Nawalpur. By focusing on school infrastructure development, Early Childhood Development (ECD) programs, teacher training, and ICT integration, SIQAEE aims to impact 20 schools, with six already benefiting in its first year. Remedial learning programs, parental engagement workshops, child group sessions, and health and hygiene awareness initiatives have collectively supported over 3,000 individuals, including 738 parents and more than 150 teachers. Addressing the need for vocational training, Right4Children’s FAB Hospitality School plays a crucial role in equipping young individuals with hospitality industry skills. The school provides specialized training in food and beverage, housekeeping, bakery, and production. Last year, 55 students completed their programs, with 30 successfully securing employment in the sector. In partnership with the Kadoorie Charitable Foundation, Enjoolata Foundation, Child Welfare Scheme Hong Kong, and Children4Children Nepal, Right4Children introduced PRAYASS, a large-scale initiative aimed at protecting vulnerable communities from exploitation, abuse, and trafficking. Operating in six low-income communities in Pokhara over the past two years, PRAYASS focuses on prevention, rehabilitation, and empowerment. Vocational training programs in tailoring, customer care, and light vehicle driving have benefited 188 young women, while remedial education support reached 228 children. Career guidance workshops provided direction for 5,431 students, and Early Childhood Development programs supported 89 young children. Health awareness sessions assisted 2,376 individuals, while a health camp provided services to 3,202 adults and children, covering topics such as family planning, personal care, health insurance, and safe abortion. PRAYASS also conducted 349 outreach visits to high-risk areas, including dance bars, cabin restaurants, and massage centers, investigating cases of human trafficking. Over 1,571 calls were received for vocational training, educational assistance, and counseling services. In the past two years, 38 rescue operations successfully led to temporary care at SHE Shelter, and 21 individuals were reunited with their families or relocated to safer communities. The initiative also provided psychosocial counseling for 280 survivors, ensuring emotional and mental health support for reintegration. Furthering its commitment to holistic community development, Right4Children partnered with British ethical knitwear brand Pachamama to establish a drinking water initiative that now serves 400 households. This collaboration also facilitated the employment of a health worker to provide essential well-being services, particularly for young at-risk men. Through a combination of education, vocational training, anti-trafficking efforts, and community development, Right4Children continues to empower Nepal’s most vulnerable populations, laying the foundation for long-term, sustainable change.

Douglas Maclagan continued, “We founded The Pavilions Himalayas to create a social business that supported the sustainable development of the Pokhara community – a key goal of ours is to employ 50 per cent of the local village and assist the remaining 50 per cent in learning to develop their own business and farm skills. Through our ‘three Ws’ we provide sustainable Work to the local community; reinvest 50 percent of the resort’s net Wealth into life-changing opportunities for vulnerable children and young individuals; and share Wisdom with our guests, staff, and the tourism industry in the form of eco-friendly operational best practices. We look forward to continuing our work and expanding the positive impact of our initiatives, with the kind support of our partners, guests and staff.”

Nestled in a serene forest valley with the breathtaking Annapurna Himalayan Mountain range as its backdrop, The Pavilions Himalayas delivers a one-of-a-kind eco-luxury experience that harmonizes with nature while uplifting the local community. This sustainable retreat encompasses The Pavilions Himalayas, The Farm, along with its exclusive satellite property, the luxury tented camp The Pavilions Himalayas Lakeview, offering guests an immersive escape in the heart of Nepal’s stunning landscapes.
