New speakeasy enhances railway facilities in Memphis
Image generated with AiAmy Gray, the director of sales and marketing at Central Station Hotel, revealed that Memphis is welcoming a novel attraction this May—a pop-up speakeasy named Conductor’s Club. Strategically located in the pedestrian tunnel across from the Central Station trolley station along South Main Street, the venue aims to offer a unique experience to both visitors and locals. The choice of location is particularly symbolic as it sits adjacent to the historic railway and is connected to the Memphis Farmer’s Market.
The Conductor’s Club, which derives its name from both train and music conductors, started welcoming guests on Friday, May 3, and will continue to do so every weekend throughout May. The speakeasy promises a rich program of live entertainment with local artists performing on Fridays, DJs on Saturdays, and jazz on Sundays. A special highlight is the anticipated performance by artists from the Stax Music Academy during the Memorial Day weekend.
Additionally, the speakeasy will open on Saturday mornings to coincide with the Farmer’s Market, offering a brunch cocktail menu that includes boozy coffee and mimosas. The ambiance of the tunnel will be enhanced with lounge chairs, high tops, satellite bars, and new lighting fixtures, which Gray confirmed would remain even after the speakeasy concludes its run.
The initiative is part of a broader strategy by Central Station Hotel to strengthen its role as a central hub for the South Main neighborhood, often considered the “living room” of the area. Although plans to place a boxcar outside the hotel’s main entrance were not feasible, the success of a previous pop-up market held by Made in Memphis in the same pedestrian tunnel during last year’s Farmer’s Market inspired the current speakeasy concept.

This pop-up series, including potential future events in summer and fall, not only complements the hotel’s weekly ‘Live at the Tracks’ event but also significantly contributes to the local tourism and hospitality scene. By integrating such cultural and entertainment activities within the railway’s historical context, Central Station Hotel is effectively enhancing the travel and tourism industry in Memphis, creating a vibrant, dynamic destination for both residents and travelers.
