London’s luxury hotel scene has gained a distinctive new destination with the opening of The Shepherd Mayfair, an 82-room boutique property in historic Shepherd Market. Combining British heritage, elegant accommodation, refined dining and personalised wellness experiences, the hotel introduces a fresh approach to luxury hospitality in central London.

Located at 2 Stanhope Row, the property spans 33,600 square feet across six floors. Its location offers convenient access to Green Park, Bond Street, exclusive shopping streets and Mayfair’s cultural attractions. The opening also introduces two dining venues, Fayre and The Lounge, with a third venue, Teddy’s, scheduled to launch in November 2026.

Historic Shepherd Market Welcomes a New Chapter in Luxury Hospitality

The Shepherd Mayfair celebrates the rich history of one of London’s most distinctive neighbourhoods. The property occupies the site associated with The Cottage, regarded as Mayfair’s oldest house, dating back to 1618.

The location was once surrounded by fields where a shepherd tended his flock. These grounds later became famous for the annual May Fair, which attracted traders, entertainers and visitors.

The neighbourhood subsequently developed under architect Edward Shepherd, whose name continues through Shepherd Market.

The hotel’s interiors reflect this history through carefully selected artwork, traditional residential influences and contemporary design. Decorative references to Braille, Morse code and nearby Down Street station also acknowledge the area’s wartime intelligence connections.

Eighty-Two Elegant Rooms and Suites Redefine Boutique Accommodation

The hotel offers 70 guestrooms and 12 suites, with layouts designed around the building’s original architectural proportions. Accommodation categories include Standard Rooms, Superior Rooms, Shepherd Suites and Mayfair Suites.

Many rooms feature window seats overlooking Shepherd Market and surrounding Mayfair streets, creating a connection between the accommodation and the historic neighbourhood.

Practical design is another important feature. Writing desks convert into dressing tables, while selected console tables transform into chessboards. Integrated storage provides additional convenience without compromising the elegant interiors.

Marble bathrooms include bespoke Floris London amenities, while selected rooms offer bathtubs and separate seating areas.

With nightly rates starting at £500, The Shepherd Mayfair targets travellers seeking premium accommodation, individual character and convenient access to London’s leading attractions.

Fayre Brings British Flavours and European Classics to Mayfair

The hotel’s main restaurant, Fayre, introduces a 62-seat dining space serving breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Its menu combines traditional British cooking with European influences. Opening dishes include twice-baked Cheddar cheese soufflé, roast halibut, beef fillet pithivier and beer-battered haddock served with prawn mousse.

A distinctive dessert offering, Puddings by the Glass, presents familiar sweets in a creative format. The selection begins with strawberry and Champagne trifle, followed by weekly recipes inspired by the historic May Fair.

The restaurant’s design complements its culinary identity. Dark wooden panelling, berry-coloured interiors and comfortable seating create an intimate atmosphere.

A three-metre chandelier featuring more than 500 suspended amber glass pendants forms the centrepiece, while decorative artwork recalls the neighbourhood’s historic celebrations.

The Lounge Introduces Relaxed All-Day Dining and Social Experiences

The Lounge provides another dining option within the hotel, offering 46 seats alongside an outdoor terrace.

Designed for both residents and local visitors, the venue serves morning coffee, breakfast, casual lunches and evening refreshments.

Its menu includes lobster and prawn brioche rolls, braised beef short rib croquettes and burgers.

A street-facing takeaway hatch adds convenience for visitors exploring Shepherd Market.

The space also features a handcrafted gin trolley created using timber from a fallen tree in Kensington Palace Gardens. Finished in Hackney, the trolley supports personalised tableside drinks service.

By welcoming neighbourhood visitors alongside hotel guests, The Lounge strengthens the property’s connection with the surrounding community.

Teddy’s Cocktail Bar Set to Expand Mayfair’s Nightlife in November

The hotel’s next major opening is Teddy’s, a 72-seat late-night cocktail bar scheduled to welcome visitors in November 2026.

Situated on the lower-ground floor, the venue will offer access through the hotel and from Market Mews.

Its concept draws inspiration from historic cocktail culture, particularly lesser-known drinks associated with the 1930s.

Five signature cocktails will reference expressions popularised by Victorian writer Edward Bulwer-Lytton.

The drinks collection will include aged Scotch, Japanese and American whiskies, tequila, mezcal, Cognac, Armagnac, Calvados and Champagne.

Teddy’s is planned to operate from Tuesday to Saturday, offering another evening destination within Shepherd Market’s established hospitality scene.

Personalised Wellness and Luxury Shopping Enhance the Guest Experience

Wellness partnerships form an important part of The Shepherd Mayfair’s hospitality offering.

Bathrooms feature Floris London amenities developed with La Bottega, while Italian skincare brand Miamo provides selected products for guestrooms.

Guests can also arrange 20-minute electrical muscle stimulation training sessions through E-Pulsive. These can take place in suites, nearby Royal Parks or a Belgravia studio.

Conventional personal training is available through concierge arrangements.

Another distinctive feature is the ground-floor walkway inspired by London’s historic shopping arcades.

Connecting the hotel with Shepherd Market, the passage displays collections from fashion, fragrance, beauty and lifestyle brands, including Aspinal of London, MacKenzie-Childs, Axel Arigato, KOIBIRD and Miamo.

Developed through a joint venture between Bain Capital and Orka Investments, the hotel combines historic character with modern luxury services.

The Shepherd Mayfair’s opening strengthens London’s boutique hospitality offering, giving visitors a new accommodation choice that brings together heritage, dining, wellness and shopping in the heart of Mayfair.
