Trilogy Hotels, an independent hotel management company, has been selected by Central Real Capital (CRC) to take over operations of The Sands Torquay, with the transition set to commence on 1 July 2026. The move signals Trilogy Hotels’ expansion into the Surf Coast region and further enhances its portfolio of high-end leisure and resort properties. The Sands Torquay is regarded as an upper-upscale destination and includes 112 suite-style accommodations along with a championship-standard 18-hole golf course.

Situated around 90 minutes from Melbourne’s central business district and approximately 20 minutes from Geelong, the resort offers a coastal retreat within easy reach of major urban centres. Many of its 112 suites provide sweeping views across the golf course and surrounding coastal dunes. The property has recently benefited from a major refurbishment programme. Its par-72 championship golf course, designed by internationally recognised Australian golfer Stuart Appleby, is seamlessly integrated into the natural sand dune landscape and supported by a strong and established membership base.

“Our aim is to preserve, stabilise and enhance The Sands as an exceptional, high-quality, residential, hospitality and golf destination for the long-term. We look forward to working with Trilogy Hotels, an operator whose expertise, experience and commitment give us the confidence to see our vision come to life for resort guests and the surrounding community,” shared Tony Denny for Central Real Capital.

Trilogy Hotels manages an expanding portfolio and development pipeline of 24 properties and is a seasoned operator of regional hospitality assets and golf facilities. Its portfolio includes landmark destinations such as the Fairmont Resort Blue Mountains – MGallery Collection, along with Leura Golf Club and Comfort Resort Leura Gardens, reflecting its strong presence in resort and leisure management across key regional locations.

“We are honoured to have been appointed by CRC as operators of The Sands Torquay. Building on the resort’s natural strengths in golf, wellness, coastal leisure and business events, we are focused on unlocking the resort’s potential and delivering an enriched experience for guests and community,” shared Scott Boyes, CEO of Trilogy Hotels.

A leading resort in Torquay is redefining the visitor experience on Victoria’s Surf Coast through a carefully designed blend of wellness, sport, hospitality, and coastal access. The property delivers a balanced environment where leisure guests, business travellers, and local visitors can all engage with high-quality facilities and services under one destination.

At the heart of the resort experience is an extensive wellness and sports infrastructure designed to meet the expectations of both casual users and performance-focused guests. The facility includes a fully equipped health club supported by a modern fitness centre featuring advanced cardiovascular and strength-training equipment. Guests can maintain fitness routines with ease, supported by a professional-grade environment that caters to varied training needs.

A major highlight is the six-lane, 25-metre indoor heated swimming pool, which offers year-round usability regardless of seasonal weather conditions. This feature ensures continuity for training, recreation, and rehabilitation activities. In addition, the resort provides two well-maintained tennis courts that support both recreational play and competitive matches. A structured schedule of group fitness classes further enhances the wellness offering, encouraging participation in guided exercise programmes that focus on health, mobility, and endurance.

Beyond fitness and sport, the resort places strong emphasis on social dining and community engagement. Three distinct venues—Spike Café, Bunkers, and Shirley’s—form the culinary and social backbone of the property. Each space serves a unique function, ranging from casual dining and café-style service to relaxed lounge environments suited for social gatherings. Importantly, these venues are not limited to in-house guests; they are also open to golf members and the broader Torquay community, strengthening the resort’s role as a local social hub.

The hospitality experience is further enhanced by versatile conference and event facilities designed to accommodate up to 400 guests in a theatre-style configuration. These spaces are engineered for flexibility, allowing the resort to host corporate conferences, business seminars, product launches, and large-scale private functions. The combination of professional amenities and scenic surroundings positions the property as a strong alternative to conventional metropolitan event venues.

Strategically located at the gateway to the Great Ocean Road, the resort benefits from direct access to one of Australia’s most iconic coastal touring routes. This positioning significantly enhances its appeal for both domestic and international travellers seeking nature-based experiences alongside premium accommodation and services.

Nearby attractions add substantial value to the guest experience. Bells Beach, globally recognised for hosting the world’s longest-running professional surfing competition, is located within easy reach. The area also includes Point Danger Marine Sanctuary, a protected coastal environment known for its marine biodiversity and scenic viewpoints. In addition, the nearby Whites Beach and Point Impossible Beach offer pristine stretches of coastline ideal for swimming, walking, and relaxation.

The broader Surf Coast region further strengthens the destination’s tourism appeal. Visitors can explore a diverse mix of coastal walking trails, surf culture experiences, and a well-established culinary scene that reflects both local produce and contemporary dining trends. Lifestyle attractions such as Surf City Retail Plaza also contribute to the region’s vibrant retail and leisure ecosystem.

From a business perspective, the resort’s location between Melbourne and Geelong provides a significant logistical advantage. Its accessibility allows corporate travellers and event organisers to host meetings and functions outside congested city environments while still maintaining strong transport connectivity. This balance of convenience, natural beauty, and modern infrastructure positions the resort as a compelling destination for both professional and leisure-focused stays on Victoria’s Surf Coast.
