IMEX America 2026 breaks records in Las Vegas with 17,800 participants and 96,000 business meetings, highlighting the growing strength of the global meetings industry. The landmark edition demonstrated how international partnerships, future talent development and long-term business opportunities are reshaping tourism, hospitality and the global business events sector.

Record Participation Signals Strong Industry Confidence

The 15th edition of IMEX America 2026 concluded at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas with its largest attendance and business meeting figures to date, reinforcing the importance of face-to-face connections in the international meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) industry.

More than 17,800 participants attended the event, including over 6,000 buyers, of whom 4,800 were hosted buyers. The gathering brought together destinations, convention bureaux, hospitality businesses, event organisers and industry professionals to develop commercial partnerships and discuss future opportunities.

The scale of participation reflected continued demand for business events capable of generating measurable commercial outcomes while supporting innovation and professional development.

Five Years of Business Conversations in Three Days

One of the most significant achievements of IMEX America 2026 was the completion of 96,000 scheduled meetings, representing approximately 48,000 hours of business discussions.

Organisers calculated that this was equivalent to more than five years of continuous meetings between buyers and exhibitors.

The programme included 82,000 individual appointments and 14,000 group meetings and exhibition stand presentations.

These figures demonstrate how a concentrated three-day exhibition can accelerate commercial discussions that would otherwise require months of international travel, communication and coordination.

For participating destinations and suppliers, the value extended beyond immediate bookings. Many conversations focused on conferences, conventions and events scheduled several years into the future.

Montréal and Puerto Rico Demonstrate Long-Term Business Value

Tourisme Montréal reported receiving two requests for proposals during IMEX America 2026.

One concerned a medical congress expected to attract approximately 1,500 delegates in July 2030. Another involved a credit management congress and exhibition with potential attendance of 1,700 participants in May 2030.

These opportunities illustrate how international trade exhibitions can support destination business pipelines extending well beyond the current financial year.

Discover Puerto Rico also highlighted the long-term value of relationships established at IMEX America.

A connection with music-led destination experience company Vibee, originally developed at IMEX America 2024, contributed to accommodation arrangements for Bad Bunny’s 2025 residency.

According to Discover Puerto Rico, the resulting 31 concerts generated 48,255 hotel room nights.

The example demonstrates how business events can support wider tourism demand, including entertainment travel, accommodation bookings and destination spending.

“IMEX America 2026 has taught us an important lesson: the future of the global meetings industry will be defined not simply by attendance figures, but by the lasting value of relationships created. With more than 17,800 participants and 96,000 scheduled meetings, this edition demonstrated the extraordinary commercial potential of bringing the right people together.

What particularly impressed us was the industry’s commitment to opportunities extending into 2030, alongside initiatives supporting young professionals and emerging talent. The examples from Montréal and Puerto Rico show how business conversations can translate into meaningful tourism demand, hotel bookings and destination development.

We also learnt that technology and innovation must complement, rather than replace, personal connections. For destinations, event organisers and hospitality businesses, the message is clear: invest in relationships, nurture future leaders and measure success through long-term outcomes. Developing Future Leaders Becomes a Major Priority

Alongside commercial achievements, IMEX America 2026 placed considerable emphasis on developing the next generation of meetings industry professionals.

The Brian D. Stevens Hospitality Education Fund was launched to support student scholarships and industry research.

Meanwhile, IMEX and Meeting Professionals International (MPI) introduced a redeveloped Future Leaders Lab initiative designed to attract students from a broader range of academic disciplines.

The programme aims to engage individuals studying economics and finance alongside those pursuing hospitality, tourism and event management.

Its planned international expansion reflects growing recognition that the meetings industry requires expertise extending beyond traditional event planning.

Students participating in the existing Future Leaders Forum also gained exposure to industry professionals, practical discussions and career opportunities.

What IMEX America 2026 Taught the Global Travel Industry

The exhibition highlighted several important lessons for destinations, tourism organisations and hospitality businesses.

First, measurable business results remain essential. Scheduled meetings, qualified buyers and future event proposals provide tangible indicators of commercial value.

Second, relationships developed at trade exhibitions can generate tourism activity years after the initial introduction.

Third, attracting skilled professionals from different educational backgrounds will become increasingly important as business events adopt new technologies and operational models.

Finally, personal interaction remains central to successful business development, even as digital platforms transform the industry.

Carina Bauer, CEO of IMEX, emphasised the importance of commercial opportunities, innovative thinking and a strong talent pipeline.

She also highlighted the positive atmosphere across the exhibition floor despite wider global uncertainty.

Industry Leaders Highlight Collaboration and Future Opportunities

The closing press conference brought together IMEX Chairman Ray Bloom, Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority President and CEO Steve Hill, MGM Resorts International senior executive Stephanie Glanzer and MPI Chief Revenue Officer Rachel Benedick.

Their participation reflected the interconnected nature of the business events industry, where destinations, hotels, convention facilities and professional associations depend on coordinated partnerships.

For Las Vegas, hosting the record-breaking edition reinforced its position as a major international business events destination.

For the wider tourism industry, IMEX America 2026 provided evidence that commercial performance and long-term industry development can advance together.

IMEX America 2026 demonstrated that the future of business events depends on meaningful partnerships, measurable returns and investment in people. Record participation and business meetings strengthened confidence across the sector, while emerging talent initiatives highlighted a broader ambition to build a more connected, innovative and sustainable global meetings industry.
