Foreign tourist arrivals reached approximately 652,000, while excursionist visits accounted for nearly 733,000 travellers who entered the country without overnight stays.

Brazil remained the largest source market for international visitors, contributing about 31.8% of total arrivals. Uruguay followed with 14.5%, while visitors from other countries across the Americas represented around 13.1% of inbound travel.

Air travel continued to play an important role in Argentina’s tourism recovery, with international aviation connections supporting growth from long-distance markets.

Neighbouring Countries Drive Argentina’s Tourism Growth

Regional travel remained the main force behind Argentina’s inbound tourism expansion during August. Visitors from nearby South American countries continued to represent a major share of international arrivals, supported by strong connectivity and shorter travel distances.

Brazil maintained its position as the leading international market, reflecting close economic and cultural links between the two countries. Uruguay also contributed significantly to visitor numbers, benefiting from frequent travel connections.

Beyond neighbouring destinations, Argentina attracted travellers from wider American markets, showing continued interest in its cities, landscapes, cultural attractions and tourism experiences.

The increase in foreign arrivals indicates growing international demand for Argentina as a destination during the winter travel period.

Argentina’s Outbound Tourism Falls As Residents Reduce Overseas Trips

While inbound tourism gained momentum, outbound travel from Argentina recorded a decline in August 2026.

The number of Argentine residents travelling abroad reached around 1.1 million, representing a decrease of nearly 19% compared with the previous year.

Among outbound travellers, tourists accounted for approximately 483,000 departures, while excursionists represented around 418,000 journeys.

Brazil remained the most popular foreign destination for Argentine travellers, attracting around 20.3% of outbound visitors. Europe followed with 15.2%, while Paraguay accounted for approximately 14.5%.

Travel to destinations across the Americas outside Argentina’s neighbouring countries represented another important share of international departures.

International Visitor Balance Remains Negative Despite Inbound Growth

Argentina recorded an overall negative international tourism balance in August 2026, with more residents travelling abroad than international visitors arriving for longer stays.

The country registered a negative balance of around 366,000 international visitors. This included a deficit of approximately 219,000 tourists and 147,000 excursionists.

Although inbound tourism improved compared with the previous year, outbound travel remained higher, affecting the country’s overall international tourism balance.

The figures show the continuing challenge for Argentina in converting rising foreign arrivals into a positive tourism exchange.

Air Travel Leads International Tourism Movement

Air connectivity played a key role in Argentina’s international tourism performance during August.

Non-resident tourist arrivals by air reached approximately 267,000, increasing by around 16.7% compared with August 2025. Airports became the main gateway for international visitors seeking longer stays in the country.

Passenger arrivals through major international airports reflected stronger demand for Argentina’s tourism offerings, especially among visitors travelling from overseas markets.

Resident departures by air totalled around 398,000, showing a decline of approximately 7.6% year-on-year.

The air travel balance remained negative, with Argentina recording fewer incoming international air travellers than residents leaving the country during the month.

Seasonally Adjusted Data Shows Continued Positive Momentum

After adjusting for seasonal variations, Argentina’s inbound tourism sector continued to show improvement.

The seasonally adjusted number of non-resident tourists increased by approximately 1.6% compared with July 2026. The trend-cycle indicator also recorded a positive movement, rising by around 0.2% compared with the previous month.

The figures suggest that Argentina’s international tourism recovery maintained steady progress despite fluctuations caused by seasonal travel patterns.

The gradual improvement highlights the resilience of the country’s tourism sector and the continued importance of international visitors for economic activity.

Leisure Travel Remains The Main Reason For International Visits
