Chief Minister of Pondicherry, V. Narayanasamy on Wednesday explained that the government would come out with a new tourism policy soon that would help to develop infrastructure and draw more investments.
On Wednesday while presenting the Budget for 2019-20 in the Legislative Assembly, he explained that the government had been executing different tourism-related projects with an expenditure of ₹181 crore provided by the Centre.
Tourism development projects in Veerampattinam, Vambakeerapalayam and Chinna Veerampattinam are close to completion and at Manapet and Narambai villages, very soon similar projects would come up. A beach resort would be set up in Karaikal with the assistance of the Indian Tourism Development Corporation.
Every weekend, with the arrival of tourists to Puducherry on the rise, the government is interested on tapping the potential in the tourism sector.
At Murungampakkam, an international complex would be set up and various infrastructure facilities would be created to promote heritage and spiritual tourism in the Union Territory. A master plan had been designed involving an expenditure of ₹114.50 crore and the proposal had been forwarded to the Centre for sanction of funds.
About ₹2.11 crore would be spent to acquire new vehicles for the police department.
To add to the police force, the government had taken decision to fill all the vacancies in different categories like sub-inspectors, police constables, coastal police wing, Home Guards and other categories.
