Adelaide tourism accelerates with stronger links to Singapore, Shanghai and Guangzhou because airlines are adding seats, restoring routes and widening access to major global markets. Singapore Airlines will lift Adelaide services to 12 weekly flights from October 2026, while Shanghai and Guangzhou strengthen direct Asian connectivity. Adelaide Airport has also passed 9.1 million annual passengers, with international traffic rising sharply. Cruise arrivals and major events add further momentum, giving the city a broader, more connected and increasingly international visitor economy overall.

Singapore Airlines Gives Adelaide a Major Airlift Boost

Singapore Airlines will increase Adelaide–Singapore services from 10 to 12 flights each week from 25 October 2026. The expansion will provide an additional 1,328 seats every week into and out of Adelaide.

Adelaide Airport says this will mark the first time an international airline has operated 12 year-round weekly flights from Adelaide. Singapore also provides onward connections to markets including Asia, Europe and the UK.

Shanghai, Guangzhou and Singapore Strengthen Asian Connectivity

Asia is becoming increasingly important to Adelaide’s aviation network.

China Eastern launched the first direct Shanghai–Adelaide service in June 2026. The seasonal route operated three times weekly until 2 August and is scheduled to return from 17 December 2026 to 16 February 2027.

China Southern has meanwhile moved its Guangzhou–Adelaide service to year-round operation from 2026, strengthening access from one of South Australia’s major international tourism markets.

Adelaide Airport Passes 9.1 Million Passengers

Adelaide Airport handled a record 9,154,558 passengers during the 12 months to 30 June 2026, up 4.8%. International traffic increased 20.2% to 1,240,585 passengers, while domestic and regional traffic reached 7,913,973.

The figures underline how international travel is becoming a major driver of Adelaide’s aviation growth.

Outer Harbor Supports Adelaide Cruise Tourism

Cruise visitors enter Adelaide through the Port Adelaide Passenger Terminal at Outer Harbor. The terminal sits about 23 kilometres from central Adelaide.

Outer Harbor Railway Station is around 200 metres from the passenger terminal, with regular trains connecting cruise passengers with Adelaide Railway Station.

South Australia scheduled 56 cruise ships carrying more than 80,000 passengers during the 2025–26 season, including maiden calls to Adelaide, Kangaroo Island and Port Lincoln.

Major Events Keep Driving Visitor Demand

Major events are adding another layer to Adelaide’s tourism momentum. Gather Round 2026 generated a total economic contribution of A$115 million and attracted 56,586 visitors, creating 233,653 visitor nights across South Australia.

LIV Golf Adelaide 2026 generated A$97.1 million and attracted 115,000 attendees, with 43% coming from outside South Australia.

Together, stronger airline links, airport growth, cruise access and major events are giving Adelaide a broader tourism base and improving its connections with visitors from Australia, Asia and wider global markets.

Adelaide tourism is accelerating because stronger links to Singapore, Shanghai and Guangzhou are expanding international access while airport, cruise and events activity support wider visitor demand. Singapore Airlines is adding capacity, China Eastern is returning seasonally from Shanghai, and China Southern is maintaining year-round Guangzhou services. At the same time, Adelaide Airport has recorded more than 9.1 million annual passengers, while cruise calls and major events continue to bring visitors into South Australia. The result is a more connected tourism economy. Adelaide now has stronger pathways into Asia and global markets, giving the destination greater reach and future growth potential.
