In light of the COVID-19 pandemic and its devastating effect on the finances of the Riviera International Conference Centre, the convention centre has decided to reduce the number of staffs in order to safeguard the future of the centre. The company and board behind the Riviera International Conference Centre (RICC) have announced that it has already started a 30-day consultation period with 42 staff at risk of redundancy.
The layoff process will be a part of a range of measures that has been undertaken to safeguard the future of the conference centre as well as the people of Torbay. Recognised leisure management company, Parkwood Leisure were due to take over the running of the RICC from April this year, but the planned takeover had to be stalled for now as the centre was forced to close in March in line with government’s COVID-19 guidance.
Simon Jolly, Managing Director, Riviera International Conference Centre said in a statement that authorities have started a process of redundancy consultation process with a group of staff, so it would not be appropriate to comment further at this stage. He mentioned that it is a process which should be treated with the upmost sensitivity, and said that he top priority for RICC at the time would be supporting the ones affected.
