The USA is set to be graced by yet another addition in the arena of cultural and scientific tourism through the opening of Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center that will take place in the city of Los Angeles, California. To be located at the famous California Science Center, this new attraction is expected to be opened on November 13, 2026.
The creation of this attraction is just one of the many expansion plans that have been put forward as an attempt to make Los Angeles among the best centers in the world for aerospace learning and science tourism.

The Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center represents the final phase of a three-part, multi-decade expansion plan for the California Science Center. Once completed, the new structure will nearly double the exhibition capacity of the institution, adding approximately 200,000 square feet of advanced learning and display space.
The opening date in November 2026 marks the culmination of years of construction, engineering integration, and artifact installation. The expansion is designed to transform the existing science complex into one of the most comprehensive aerospace education destinations in North America, strengthening California’s role in scientific innovation tourism within the United States.

A defining feature of the new facility will be the permanent vertical display of the Space Shuttle Endeavour, part of the historic fleet operated by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The shuttle will be exhibited in full launch position inside a towering 20-storey structure, making it the only location in the world to present a complete space shuttle system in this configuration.
The shuttle display highlights the United States’ leadership in human spaceflight history and will preserve one of the most significant engineering achievements of the modern era. Positioned within the Samuel Oschin Shuttle Gallery, the exhibit will allow visitors to view the spacecraft from multiple levels, offering a rare close-up perspective of orbital technology that supported 135 space missions.
The new centre will feature three major thematic zones designed to showcase the evolution of flight and space exploration. These include the Samuel Oschin Shuttle Gallery, the Korean Air Aviation Gallery, and the Kent Kresa Space Gallery.
The aviation section will focus on the development of commercial and military flight, while the space gallery will present advanced technologies linked to deep-space exploration and propulsion systems. The structure is designed to combine historical artifacts with modern aerospace engineering displays, creating a continuous narrative from early flight innovations to future interplanetary missions.
This multi-gallery structure positions the attraction as a key educational destination for international visitors travelling to Los Angeles and the wider California region.
The Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center will introduce a range of immersive educational installations designed to simulate real aerospace conditions. Visitors will be able to experience a vertical ascent along the shuttle stack via a gantry-style elevator reaching over 140 feet, recreating astronaut preparation environments prior to launch.
Additional interactive features include a shuttle descent experience featuring a controlled 45-foot drop slide, designed to represent atmospheric re-entry dynamics. A cockpit simulation area will allow visitors to engage with replica flight controls, offering hands-on exposure to shuttle navigation systems used in orbital missions.
These installations are intended to strengthen STEM engagement among students and visitors, reinforcing the United States’ broader commitment to science education and innovation-based tourism.
Construction of the facility entailed collaboration between architects and engineers, which included complex structural design that enabled the installation of the vertical shuttle. The center incorporates efforts by several engineering and design experts, owing to the nature of preserving and presenting large aerospace machines.
The opening of the facility will help boost Los Angeles’ tourism industry by providing another valuable site for visitors in California, which currently boasts a number of museums and entertainment and scientific centers.
The facility once built will increase footfall into southern California and support domestic and international tourism that revolves around aerospace heritage, education, and museum experience. The facility is expected to be among the best space attractions globally and will boost the United States’ dominance in science communication and aerospace history.
