In the latest report by IPK’s Destination Performance Index (DPI), Spain has once again claimed the title as the world’s most-visited destination, capturing nearly ten percent of global outbound holiday trips in 2023. Following closely behind is the USA, continuing its prominence as a top destination for international travellers. However, the spotlight shines on Dubai, which has been rated the highest among global destinations according to the DPI for 2023.

The World Travel Monitor, in its comprehensive evaluation for the DPI, considered several factors including travel satisfaction, the likelihood of travelers recommending the destination, and their desire to return. This meticulous approach underscores the significance of not just attracting tourists, but also ensuring their experience is memorable and commendable. Dubai’s ascendancy to the top position highlights its exceptional ability to blend cultural richness with modern luxury, offering an unparalleled experience to its visitors.

Following Dubai in the high ranks were the Maldives, which held the previous year’s top spot, South Africa, and Abu Dhabi, showcasing the diverse appeal of destinations across the globe. Notably, Austria and Switzerland were acknowledged as the highest-rated destinations within Europe, reflecting their enduring allure with travelers seeking both natural beauty and cultural heritage.

The findings come ahead of the highly anticipated ITB Berlin 2024, slated to run from March 5th to 7th. Since its inception in 1966, ITB Berlin has established itself as the world’s leading travel trade show, bringing together professionals from across the spectrum of the travel industry. The upcoming event promises to continue this legacy, with the ITB Berlin Convention running parallel to the show. Themed “Pioneer the Transition in Travel & Tourism. Together.”, the convention aims to foster discussions on the current and future challenges facing the industry.

Scheduled to feature leading speakers from the realms of business, science, and politics across four stages and 17 themed tracks, ITB Berlin 2024 anticipates more than 24,000 attendees. This gathering will not only highlight the industry’s dynamism but also its resilience and capacity for innovation in the face of evolving global travel trends.
