Thailand exceeded its target for first-quarter tourist arrivals, with 6.15 million tourists from January to March 27, according to government spokeswoman Traisuree Taisaranakul on Wednesday.

The government had set a goal of 6 million tourist arrivals in the three months ending March of this year.

According to the Tourism Council, an industry organisation, at least 30 million tourists are projected to visit the country this year, spending 1.5 trillion baht ($43.74 billion). The government anticipates 25 to 30 million tourists for the entire year.

According to Traisuree, the government asked hospitality establishments, particularly hotels and restaurants, to offer reasonable pricing after they were spotted tripling at certain locations as more visitors came.

Earlier, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) noted that Thailand expects to welcome more than 6 million European tourists in 2023, generating 420 billion baht in income for the country.

This accounts for roughly 80% of the pre-pandemic total, as part of the total revenue of 1.5 trillion baht by year-end.
