AirlineRatings.com names Air New Zealand as the safest airline for 2024, surpassing Qantas by a narrow margin in safety and innovation.
AirlineRatings.com, a unique online platform that evaluates both safety and product standards in the aviation industry, has recently crowned Air New Zealand as the leading airline in terms of safety for the year 2024.
This recognition sees Air New Zealand ascend to the top position, edging out the previous holder, Qantas, by a very slim margin.
Geoffrey Thomas, the Chief Editor at AirlineRatings.com, remarked: “The top twenty-five airlines we’ve identified are true industry leaders, excelling in aspects of safety, innovation, and the deployment of new planes.”
Thomas further highlighted the minimal safety differences among these top twenty-five airlines, stating, “The gap between Air New Zealand and Qantas is just 1.5 points – it’s remarkably tight.”
In its evaluation process, AirlineRatings.com considers a variety of key factors, including major incidents, recent fatal accidents, checks from aviation authorities and industry organizations, profitability, pioneering safety measures, expert assessments of pilot training, and the age of the airline fleet.
The assessment does not include factors beyond an airline’s control such as bird strikes, injuries due to turbulence, weather-related diversions, and lightning strikes.
In selecting Air New Zealand as the top airline, the editors at AirlineRatings.com noted the airline’s strong emphasis on safety and its outstanding performance in various safety aspects, down to the smallest details. They also recognized the challenging environments in which the airline’s pilots operate.
