The need to make sure that tourism is strong and flexible, considering its significance as an important driver of financial growth, has been stressed by Hon. Percival James Patterson, the erstwhile Prime Minister and Statesman-in-Residence in Jamaica.
The earlier Prime Minister, who in the midst of other collective tasks also functioned as the Minister of Tourism, was a crucial speaker at the inaugural session of the African Caribbean Tourism Summit. The Global Tourism Resilience conference was held at the UWI regional headquarters in Mona.
Mr. Patterson spoke about prospects emerging from the tourism industry and the significance of building on the historical connection between the Caribbean and the African diaspora. Keeping in mind the times before and after the pandemic, Mr. Patterson said that there is undoubtedly no doubt regarding the necessity of moving forward with organizing the African and Caribbean diaspora in the areas of trade, funding, culture, science, sports and entertainment.
