India Welcomes Espolòn Tequila As Campari Group Expands Premium Spirits Portfolio And Cocktail Culture Growth
Campari Group has introduced Espolòn Tequila to the Indian market, expanding its collection of globally recognised spirits that have become favourites among bartenders for their unique character and craft-driven approach. The portfolio, which includes iconic names such as Aperol and the globally popular Aperol Spritz, Campari — the essential ingredient in the classic Negroni — and SKYY Vodka, now welcomes Espolòn as a tequila brand designed to bring creativity, authenticity and a new perspective to India’s growing cocktail culture.
Espolòn enters the country with a vision to redefine how premium tequila is perceived, moving away from the idea that high-quality spirits are only meant for a select audience. The brand represents an open and expressive approach to tequila, combining traditional craftsmanship with modern creativity to appeal to a new generation of consumers and cocktail enthusiasts.

The story of Espolòn goes beyond the tequila inside the bottle. It reflects a deep connection between Mexican heritage, artistry and innovation. During the fermentation process, classical music is played for the yeast — a unique tradition introduced by founder and Maestro Tequilero Cirilo Oropeza. He believed that the vibrations from music could support the yeast’s activity during fermentation, and Espolòn continues this distinctive practice as part of its production philosophy.
The brand’s artistic identity is equally important. Espolòn’s iconic bottle designs draw inspiration from José Guadalupe Posada, one of Mexico’s most influential artists, known for his powerful 19th-century prints and famous calavera (skeleton) illustrations. Posada used his artwork to reflect social issues and challenge the realities of his time, leaving a lasting influence on Mexican culture and global pop art.

Each Espolòn label tells a different story from Mexico’s rich history, featuring the brand’s legendary rooster character, Ramón. The artwork transforms every bottle into a visual narrative, celebrating Mexican traditions while connecting the heritage of the past with the creativity of today.
A bartender’s favourite brand enters India’s evolving cocktail scene
With its arrival in India, Espolòn aims to strengthen its presence among bartenders, mixologists and consumers who are exploring premium spirits and innovative cocktail experiences. The launch comes at a time when India’s beverage landscape is witnessing rapid growth, with increasing interest in craft spirits, premium tequila and global cocktail trends.
Espolòn’s combination of traditional tequila-making methods, artistic storytelling and accessible premium positioning is expected to introduce Indian consumers to a fresh interpretation of tequila culture, blending Mexican craftsmanship with the energy of India’s modern hospitality and nightlife sector.
Shivam Misra, Managing Director, India & The Sub-Continent, Campari Group, said: “Campari Group’s story began 166 years ago in 1860, and what has always defined us is our passion for distinctive liquids and the drinking experiences built around them. In India, we’re building a portfolio with a real place in contemporary cocktail culture, and we want to be a bartender’s delight — giving them distinctive flavours and the freedom to create. Espolòn is an exciting addition to that journey. It also brings a very different spirit to tequila. It’s about bringing people together and having a little fun along the way, challenging the idea that premium tequila needs to be exclusive or status driven. Made from Blue Weber agave and deeply connected to Mexican culture, it combines authenticity and creativity with an irreverent spirit that makes the brand distinctive.”
Mexico’s Spirit And Culture Remain At The Heart Of The Brand
Cocktails are becoming a powerful gateway for India’s evolving spirits market, with Campari Group’s India strategy highlighting popular serves such as the Margarita, Paloma and Picante as major contributors to consumer exploration and brand engagement. Beyond cocktail-led discovery, the brand is expanding its presence across social gatherings, travel experiences, weddings, premium at-home consumption and gifting occasions, reflecting the growing demand for elevated drinking experiences.
Arvind Padhi, Commercial Director, Marketing & CCM, India & The Sub-Continent, Campari Group, said: “Indian consumers are becoming far more exploratory in the spirits they choose. They’re trading up, but premium today is less about a label or status symbol, and more about authenticity, craft and provenance — and Espolòn doesn’t simply come from Mexico, Mexico runs through the brand. From its Blue Weber agave and its home in the Highlands of Jalisco, to its art and storytelling, it celebrates Mexico in a distinctive, contemporary way. Its visual world draws on pioneering Mexican artist José Guadalupe Posada, whose work inspired the brand’s illustrated characters and storytelling. And my favourite Espolòn story happens before the tequila reaches the glass — the tradition of playing classical music to the yeast during fermentation. There’s a romance to that liquid long before it’s ever poured.”
A portfolio designed for discovery
Espolòn has entered the Indian market with a curated collection of three premium tequila expressions, each offering a distinct flavour profile and tasting experience for consumers exploring authentic Mexican spirits.
The India debut features Espolòn Blanco, Espolòn Reposado, and Espolòn Añejo, bringing a range of fresh, aged and complex tequila styles to the market.
Espolòn Blanco delivers a bright and refreshing character, opening with sweet agave notes combined with tropical fruit and citrusy lemon zest. The palate reveals layers of pepper, vanilla bean and grilled pineapple before ending with a clean and smooth finish.
Espolòn Reposado offers a deeper flavour experience with aromas of spicy caramel fudge. Its taste profile combines roasted agave, tropical fruit, vanilla and warming spice notes, creating a balanced tequila with a rich yet smooth finish.
Espolòn Añejo represents the most mature expression in the portfolio, featuring aromas of roasted agave, earthy oak and butterscotch. The flavour develops with notes of caramel, vanilla, dried fruit and chocolate, followed by a soft and velvety mouthfeel.
Focused on making premium tequila more accessible, Espolòn has introduced competitive pricing across key Indian markets. In Mumbai, Espolòn Blanco is priced at ₹8,100, Reposado at ₹9,200 and Añejo at ₹12,900.
In Goa, consumers can purchase Espolòn Blanco at ₹5,500 and Reposado at ₹6,600, while in Gurugram, the range is available at ₹4,500 for Blanco, ₹5,000 for Reposado and ₹6,500 for Añejo.
