Tulum, a picturesque coastal town in Mexico’s Quintana Roo state, has earned the title of “Best Beach in Mexico and Central America” at the 30th annual World Travel Awards, often referred to as the “Tourism Oscars.” Quintana Roo, the state where Tulum is located, dominated the awards ceremony, securing a total of 21 accolades.

Tulum’s recognition as a leading beach destination is not new; it has previously received this prestigious award six times, in 2009, 2016, 2017, 2020, and now 2022. The president of the Tulum Tourism Promotion Council, Mario Cruz Rodríguez, expressed his delight at this achievement, emphasizing its significance not only for Tulum but also for Mexico as a whole.

In addition to Tulum’s success, other destinations in Quintana Roo were also celebrated. Cancún was named the top destination city, while Cozumel secured the title of the top cruise port. The Grand Fiesta Americana Coral Beach Cancún was honored as the top beach resort, and the Kempinski Hotel Cancún received the award for the best new hotel. The St. Regis Kanai Resort in Riviera Maya was recognized as the best new top resort, and the Cancún Office of Visitors and Conventions was awarded the title of the best tourist board of a leading city.

Beyond these regional distinctions, several other Quintana Roo establishments and companies received recognition in the Mexico category. Cancún was acknowledged as the leading beach destination, and Xcaret was named the best leading adventure tour operator. Puerto Morelos was celebrated as the #1 destination in adventure tourism, and Cancún Aventuras Extremas was honored as the best adventure tourist attraction.

The accolades continued with the Hilton Tulum Riviera Maya being recognized as the top all-inclusive resort, and the Hyatt Ziva Cancún winning the title of leading beach resort. Boutique resorts like Our Habitas in Tulum and Atelier Playa Mujeres also received awards. Hacienda Tres Ríos Resort, Spa, and Natural Park was honored as the top family resort.

The tourism industry in Quintana Roo continues to thrive, with nearly 2 million visitors to Tulum alone in 2022. The region’s popularity is expected to rise further with the construction of a new international airport in the coastal city, further cementing its status as a premier travel destination in Mexico and Central America.
