Twelve trapped on Hong Kong Disneyland roller-coaster, rescued after 45 mins. No injuries reported. Incident under investigation.

About twelve people were stuck on a roller-coaster at Hong Kong Disneyland on a Wednesday but were safely rescued after 45 minutes without any injuries.

The event occurred in the afternoon on the Space Mountain ride, according to the Hong Kong Government’s Electrical and Mechanical Services Department.

When the Disneyland reported the incident at 3:30 pm, the department quickly went to investigate. They found that nine roller coaster trains were operating when the safety system halted all trains due to a delay in the loading area. A train stopped in a hard-to-reach spot led Disneyland to call for help from the Fire Services Department and safely get all passengers off the ride by 4:15 pm. There were no injuries or mechanical issues.

The authorities have instructed the park to thoroughly check the ride and ensure its safety before reopening. They must also report on the incident.

Hong Kong Disneyland has not commented on the situation.

The park, opened in 2005, is a partnership between the Walt Disney Co. and the Hong Kong Government, with the latter owning a majority. Recently, the park celebrated its 100 millionth visitor.

This mishap occurred right before a busy season, with over a million visitors expected from mainland China for the Lunar New Year holidays starting Saturday.
