In 2026, major cruise lines like Viking, Royal Caribbean, MSC Cruises, and Norwegian Cruise Line will introduce 13 new ships to the industry, marking a significant expansion in the global cruise market. These newbuilds will be delivered to 12 cruise lines, with a focus on both luxury and large vessels that will cater to growing passenger demand.

Viking will be a key player, receiving two luxury ships from Fincantieri, strengthening its position in the high-end cruise market. Alongside Viking, other luxury cruise brands such as Emerald Cruises, Explora Journeys, Atlas Ocean Voyages, and Regent Seven Seas Cruises will all add new upscale vessels to their fleets, contributing to the rise in demand for luxury travel experiences.

A highlight of 2026 will be the debut of the OE Corinthian by Orient Express, marking the brand’s first-ever cruise program and setting a new standard for luxury cruises. This move will open new doors for travelers seeking a more refined, exclusive cruising experience.

In addition to luxury ships, several large vessels will join fleets next year. Royal Caribbean is set to welcome the Legend of the Seas, a 250,000-ton ship under construction at Meyer Turku in Finland. The Legend will be the second vessel in Royal Caribbean’s Icon-class series, designed to offer cutting-edge amenities and experiences.

Other notable ships include the Adora Flora City, which will become the largest cruise ship ever built in China, and the Magellan Discovery, designed specifically for expedition cruises to Antarctica.

According to Cruise Industry News‘ independent research, these 13 ships will add about 38,000 berths to the industry in 2026, representing a major investment in the sector. With an average size of 112,377 tons and an average cost of $805 million per ship, the newbuilds will contribute over $12 billion to the cruise industry.

The arrival of these new vessels will not only enhance passenger options but also support the ongoing growth of the cruise sector as demand for both luxury and large cruise ships continues to rise. The expansion will offer cruise lines new opportunities to cater to evolving travel trends, ensuring that 2026 is a pivotal year for the industry’s development.
