According to the list, Luang Prabang claimed the top spot, followed by Bangkok in Thailand, Angkor Wat in Cambodia, and Hoi An in Vietnam. Other notable destinations included the Hunza Valley in Pakistan, Jaipur in India, Pokhara in Nepal, Ella in Sri Lanka, Singapore, Kerala’s Backwaters in India, Petra in Jordan, the Maldives, Penang in Malaysia, Paro in Bhutan, Setouchi in Japan, Seoul in South Korea, Siargao in the Philippines, Bali in Indonesia, Samarkand in Uzbekistan, Yunnan Province in China, Tokyo, and Hong Kong.
In addition to this accolade, Luang Prabang recently earned recognition in the 2024 Green Destinations Top 100 Stories, highlighting its commitment to sustainable tourism and preserving its cultural heritage.
Laos was among 32 nations featured on the Green Destinations 2024 Top 100 Stories list, which was unveiled in October.

Luang Prabang has earned the distinction of being the sole destination in Laos to feature on the 2024 Top 100 Destination Sustainability Stories list. This recognition was awarded under the theme “Preservation of Architectural Housing Styles in a World Heritage Area,” highlighting the province’s dedication to maintaining its unique cultural and historical charm.
In addition, Luang Prabang was spotlighted by the prestigious American publication Time Magazine, which ranked it among the 50 Greatest Places to Visit in 2023, further cementing its reputation as a must-visit destination.

Described by Time Magazine as “a hidden paradise,” Luang Prabang captivates visitors with its turquoise waterfalls, serene Buddhist temples, and enchanting sunset cruises along the Mekong River. These highlights, combined with its unique charm, make it a premier travel destination in Laos.
Renowned for its riverside charm, historic temples, narrow streets, vibrant festivals, and breathtaking natural beauty, Luang Prabang stands out as one of Laos’ most iconic provinces. Its old quarter earned a place on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1995, recognized for its culturally significant architecture and its preservation as a global treasure.

Top attractions in the area include the Phu Si stupa, the Kuang Si and Sae waterfalls, and the bustling night market, celebrated for its wide array of handcrafted goods.
Tourism in Luang Prabang has seen remarkable growth, with over 1.9 million domestic and international visitors recorded in the first 11 months of this year—an increase of more than one million compared to the same period last year. This influx of travelers has generated over $1 billion in revenue, underscoring the province’s vital role in Laos’ tourism industry.
More than 1.3 million international travelers visited, marking an impressive 87.43% increase. The top ten countries contributing to this surge were China, South Korea, the United States, Thailand, France, Sweden, Austria, Germany, Canada, and Japan.
