Indonesia can experience increased economic and tourism activities with TEI 2026, which will attract buyers from 113 countries and have a potential business volume of US$17.5 billion. This five-day event will contribute to the export, investment, and MSMEs as well as generate new demand for hotels, restaurants, transportation, and other MICE tourism activities.

Indonesia is preparing for a major global business gathering that could strengthen trade, investment and tourism together. The 41st Trade Expo Indonesia 2026 will bring international buyers, Indonesian exporters and investors to Tangerang from 14 to 18 October 2026.

As of 6 October, 6,597 buyers from 113 countries had registered for the event. Indonesia is targeting US$17.5 billion in potential transactions, around 30,000 visitors and roughly 1,500 exhibitors.

The numbers make TEI much more than a trade show. The event could also support hotels, airlines, restaurants, transport companies, local businesses and Indonesia’s fast-growing MICE tourism economy.

TEI 2026 Could Put Indonesia At The Centre Of Global Business Travel

TEI 2026 will run for five days at Indonesia Convention Exhibition or ICE BSD City in Tangerang, Banten.

The exhibition will cover 16,656 square metres. The event will bring together products, companies and buyers from across the world.

Indonesia has set an ambitious target. It wants TEI 2026 to generate US$17.5 billion in potential transactions.

The government is also targeting around 8,000 buyers and 30,000 total visitors.

These visitors will not stay only inside the exhibition halls. Many international delegates will need flights, hotels, meals and road transport. This creates a clear connection between TEI and business tourism.

Buyers From 113 Countries Give Indonesia A Powerful Global Reach

International interest is already strong.

A total of 6,597 buyers from 113 countries had registered ahead of the event.

India leads the international buyer list. Around 680 registered buyers are from India. China, Nigeria and Malaysia are also among the four biggest buyer markets. Egypt follows closely as another major participating market.

These countries matter because they connect Indonesia with South Asia, East Asia, Southeast Asia, Africa and the Middle East.

The wide geographic spread gives Indonesian exporters a chance to reduce dependence on only a few markets. It also creates opportunities for new commercial relationships that may continue long after the exhibition closes.

Zimbabwe, Russia, Uzbekistan, United Kingdom, And Serbia Add Another International Layer

TEI 2026 is also becoming a platform for economic diplomacy.

Indonesia has received invitation requests linked to Zimbabwe, Russia, Uzbekistan, the United Kingdom and Serbia.

Promotion for the event has also been connected with international trade events in Russia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Australia.

This expands TEI’s reach beyond the largest registered buyer markets.

Indonesia is using its embassies, consulates, trade attachés and international trade promotion centres to identify potential business partners.

Seventeen business pitching and business-matching preparation sessions had already taken place by 21 September. Twelve were held in August and five followed in September.

More Than 1500 Indonesian Businesses Could Win New Export Orders

The Indonesian side of the exhibition is equally important.

By 25 September, 1,533 Indonesian businesses had registered as exhibitors. Many are micro, small and medium-sized enterprises.

The largest group comes from food, beverages and agriculture, with 754 exhibitors.

Fashion and handicrafts account for another 448 exhibitors. Manufactured products and services have 183. Furniture and home décor have 85. Industrial estates have 63.

This mix shows how widely TEI’s economic benefits could spread.

A new overseas order may help factories. It can also help farmers, craftspeople, designers, food producers, packaging firms, transport companies and local suppliers.

US$17.5 Billion Target Could Support Indonesia’s Wider GDP Story

The TEI transaction target looks significant beside Indonesia’s wider economy.

Indonesia’s GDP reached Rp6,552.1 trillion at current prices in the second quarter of 2026. The economy expanded 5.29% year-on-year during the quarter.

Across the first half of 2026, economic growth reached 5.45%.

TEI cannot directly add US$17.5 billion to GDP. Transaction value and GDP are not the same measure.

However, realised export orders can increase production. Investment deals can finance factories, equipment and business expansion. Services contracts can generate income.

This means TEI can support GDP through trade, investment and domestic business activity if its agreements become real transactions.

TEI 2025 Shows Why The 2026 Target Cannot Be Ignored

Last year’s results show why Indonesia is placing such importance on TEI.

TEI 2025 attracted 34,550 visitors from 131 countries. It also brought in 8,045 overseas buyers from 130 countries and involved 1,619 exhibitors.

Transactions reached US$22.80 billion.

Goods accounted for US$17.90 billion. Services generated US$443.70 million, while investment commitments reached US$4.37 billion.

Indonesian MSMEs alone recorded around US$474.70 million in transactions.

India produced the largest transaction value at US$4.30 billion. The Netherlands followed with US$3.90 billion, Vietnam US$3.30 billion, the Philippines US$3.10 billion and China US$2.40 billion.

Tourism Could Become TEI’s Hidden Economic Winner

The trade deals will attract most attention. Yet tourism could become another important winner.

International buyers are also business travellers.

They book airline seats. They use hotels. They eat in restaurants. They hire vehicles. They attend meetings. They may shop and visit attractions before returning home.

Organisers have prepared more than 200 hotel rooms for selected buyers with strong business-matching and transaction potential.

That creates immediate spending around Tangerang, BSD City, Banten and the wider Jakarta metropolitan region.

It also places TEI firmly within the MICE sector. MICE covers meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions and forms an important part of high-value business tourism.

Indonesia Tourism Is Already Entering TEI With Strong Momentum

TEI arrives when Indonesia’s tourism industry is growing.

Indonesia recorded 1.60 million international visitor arrivals in August 2026. That was 6.27% higher than August 2025.

Domestic tourists made 104.30 million trips during August, up 11.47% year-on-year.

Star-rated hotel occupancy reached 52.52%, increasing 2.01 percentage points from a year earlier.

Indonesia had already welcomed 8.98 million foreign visitors between January and July 2026. When August is added, the January-August total was about 10.58 million visits.

This tourism momentum gives TEI a strong platform for bringing more international business travellers into the country.

Foreign Tourists Are Spending More Money Inside Indonesia

Visitor numbers tell only part of the story.

Spending matters just as much.

During the first half of 2026, the average spending of an international tourist reached around US$1,313 per visit. That represented an increase of 6.36%.

This is important for TEI.

International business travellers may spend money across several parts of the visitor economy. Hotels, restaurants, event venues, taxis, retail outlets and local service providers can benefit.

Indonesia’s accommodation and food-service sector already showed strong growth. It expanded 11.83% during the first half of 2026, making it the fastest-growing production sector during that period.

Large international events can help sustain this demand.

Tourism Already Contributes More Than Rp1 Trillion To Indonesia’s Economy

Indonesia has another reason to connect major exhibitions with tourism.

Tourism’s direct contribution to national GDP reached 4.78% in 2025, equal to approximately Rp1,138.90 trillion.

Total internal tourism consumption stood at Rp2,408.97 trillion.

Domestic tourism spending contributed around Rp2,090.31 trillion. International inbound tourism generated another Rp318.66 trillion.

Indonesia is targeting 16 million to 17.6 million international tourist visits in 2026. It also aims for US$22 billion to US$24.7 billion in tourism foreign-exchange earnings and a tourism GDP contribution of roughly 4.6% to 4.7%.

TEI alone cannot deliver these targets, but international business events can help.

Tangerang And Banten Could Feel The Benefits First

The immediate tourism impact will be strongest around Tangerang and Banten.

Banten recorded around 5.80 million domestic tourist trips in August 2026.

Tangerang Regency alone received approximately 1.64 million domestic trips during the month. South Tangerang recorded around 1.04 million.

TEI will add another layer of international business activity to this busy visitor market.

Hotels around BSD City could receive delegates. Restaurants may gain customers. Transport services could see higher demand. Business centres, meeting venues and retailers may also benefit.

For Banten, TEI is therefore not simply a national trade show. It is also a large-scale visitor economy event.

Indonesia Could Turn Five Days Of TEI Into Years Of Economic Value

TEI 2026 will last only five days. Its economic impact could last far longer.

The US$17.5 billion transaction target is not guaranteed income. It remains a target for potential deals.

Yet TEI 2025 proved that very large agreements can emerge from the event.

If 2026 contracts become exports, investments and long-term partnerships, Indonesia can gain new production, jobs and overseas market access.

At the same time, thousands of international and domestic visitors can support hotels, restaurants, aviation, transport and other tourism businesses.

That makes TEI 2026 a powerful intersection of trade, investment, MSME growth and MICE tourism.

TEI 2026 will make a much bigger impact on the country beyond the five days of the event. It will help create employment opportunities, as well as support the development of MSMEs through the export, investments and business relationships that will be established during the event. Moreover, the international visitors of the event will generate new needs for hotel accommodations, restaurants, transportation services and other MICE services. Since buyers from 113 countries have shown an interest in the event, Indonesia stands a good chance to utilize TEI 2026 as a long-term platform for business.
