Mövenpick Hotel Doha has introduced a wide range of innovative solutions to improve energy efficiency and reduce unnecessary consumption throughout the property.
A major step in this sustainability journey has been the replacement of traditional lighting systems with energy-saving LED technology across different operational areas. The hotel has also reduced lighting intensity in selected locations to optimise electricity use without affecting guest comfort.
Advanced Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) systems have been installed for pumps and motors, allowing equipment to operate more efficiently by adjusting energy consumption according to demand. Sensor-based lighting solutions in public spaces further support energy savings by reducing electricity use when areas are not occupied.
The hotel has also implemented a Guest Room Management System (GRMS), which enables automatic power control through keycard activation in guest rooms. Additional improvements include timer-controlled external lighting, upgraded illuminated signage systems and energy-efficient fan coil units (FCUs) designed to improve cooling performance.
By combining technology with responsible operational practices, Mövenpick Hotel Doha continues to enhance guest comfort while lowering environmental impact and improving resource efficiency.
Water Conservation Measures Strengthen Responsible Resource Management
Operating in a region where water conservation is particularly important, Mövenpick Hotel Doha has prioritised efficient water management through multiple initiatives.
The hotel has installed sensor-operated faucets in public washroom areas, helping reduce unnecessary water consumption. Traditional single-flush toilets have been upgraded to dual-flush systems, while water-efficient urinals have been introduced in selected areas.
Water-saving aerators have also been fitted in guest rooms and public facilities, allowing the hotel to reduce water usage while maintaining a comfortable experience for visitors.
The property further encourages sustainable guest participation through towel and linen reuse programmes, allowing travellers to contribute directly to conservation efforts during their stay.
These initiatives demonstrate the hotel’s commitment to protecting valuable water resources and promoting responsible travel habits among guests and employees.
Technology and Data Help Reduce Waste and Food Loss
Mövenpick Hotel Doha has strengthened its waste management approach by using technology-driven monitoring systems to measure performance and identify areas for improvement.
Through the GAIA Waste Monitoring Platform and the Winnow Food Waste Management System, the hotel tracks waste generation patterns and food waste levels, enabling teams to make informed decisions and introduce targeted solutions.
Between March 2025 and February 2026, the hotel successfully diverted more than 621 kilograms of waste away from landfill through recycling programmes. Materials such as paper, cardboard, glass and plastic were collected and processed as part of the hotel’s commitment to circular economy practices.
Food waste reduction has also become a major sustainability priority. By improving kitchen operations, increasing employee awareness and using digital monitoring tools, the hotel reduced food waste from 47.37 grams per cover in 2024 to 37.05 grams per cover in 2025.
This represented an improvement of approximately 22 per cent. During the same period, food waste as a percentage of sales decreased from 0.69 per cent to 0.50 per cent, while food waste value per cover dropped from QAR 0.32 to QAR 0.22.
These results demonstrate the effectiveness of data-led sustainability management and highlight the hotel’s commitment to reducing waste throughout its operations.
Green Team Builds a Strong Culture of Environmental Responsibility
A dedicated Green Team has played a central role in driving Mövenpick Hotel Doha’s sustainability achievements.
The team works to promote environmental awareness among employees through training programmes, internal campaigns and practical sustainability initiatives. Staff members receive guidance on energy-saving practices, water conservation, waste separation and responsible workplace behaviour.
Known within the Accor network as Heartists, employees are encouraged to become sustainability advocates who actively support environmental goals across different departments.
This employee-driven approach has helped create a workplace culture where sustainability is viewed as a shared responsibility rather than a separate operational objective.
Through continuous education and engagement, Mövenpick Hotel Doha has strengthened employee participation and ensured that sustainability remains part of everyday decision-making.
Community Engagement Extends Sustainability Beyond the Hotel
Mövenpick Hotel Doha’s sustainability commitment goes beyond internal operations, with the hotel actively supporting environmental initiatives within Qatar’s communities.
On 18 September 2025, the hotel joined hands with the Ministry of Municipality and volunteers from across Qatar for a major Beach Clean-Up Campaign at Al Ruwais Beach.
The initiative focused on protecting Qatar’s coastline and marine environment while encouraging greater public awareness about environmental conservation.
The hotel’s participation demonstrated the importance of collaboration between businesses, government organisations and communities in creating long-term environmental benefits.
Following the campaign, Mövenpick Hotel Doha received recognition from the Ministry of Municipality’s General Cleanliness Department for its contribution to the initiative.
The hotel has also organised sustainability-focused activities during Earth Day celebrations, including a tree-planting initiative conducted with presenters from Qabayan Radio 94.3.
A Sustainability Pledge Board was introduced to encourage guests and employees to make personal commitments towards protecting the environment. The initiative highlighted the shared responsibility of individuals and organisations in building a cleaner and more sustainable future.
Mövenpick Hotel Doha Receives Recognition for Sustainability Leadership
The hotel’s sustainability efforts have also received national recognition. During Hospitality Qatar 2025, Mövenpick Hotel Doha was awarded the Sustainability Initiative of the Year award for its Green Globe programme.
Presented by Qatar Tourism and IFP Qatar, the award recognised the hotel’s successful integration of sustainability practices into its operations, employee engagement programmes and community initiatives.
The recognition further strengthens Mövenpick Hotel Doha’s position as a responsible hospitality leader in Qatar and highlights the growing importance of sustainability within the country’s tourism sector.
