Three new international destinations are added for Austin, including Liberia in Costa Rica, Nassau in the Bahamas, and Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. Weekend service will be offered on these three routes by Southwest Airlines. These options will make travelling easier for people from the Texas capital city, since there will be more holiday options available. Additionally, it will make the travelling process simpler for those passengers that had to connect to the flights with Southwest Airlines. However, the weekend flights demand more planning, since the mid-week return flight may demand another flight path.

Returning Routes Give Austin More Summer Choice

Austin’s domestic additions reach Portland, Sarasota, Savannah and Bozeman. Southwest plans daily seasonal flights to Portland, Oregon. It last operated that route in 2018. Sarasota returns with seasonal Saturday flights after Southwest last served the route in 2023. New weekend service will connect Austin with Savannah, Georgia. Bozeman, Montana, gains a new Saturday connection. Together, these routes create more ways to plan a summer break within the United States. Southwest expects about 143 departures on Austin’s busiest days. That would mark its largest schedule at the airport. Still, travellers should check each route’s operating days before choosing their holiday dates.

Nashville Gains New Island Escapes and a Boise Link

Nashville receives three new routes in the headline expansion. Southwest will connect the city with Boise, Nassau and Providenciales. The last two destinations serve the Bahamas and Turks and Caicos. These additions widen Nashville’s mix of domestic and international flights. Southwest also plans to restore seasonal services to Bozeman and Portland. The airline expects up to 220 daily flights from Nashville during the summer schedule. These figures include existing services, rather than only the new routes. For local travellers, a larger network creates more choices. Yet seasonal flights still depend on travel dates, so every journey needs a careful check.

San Diego Adds Oklahoma City as Seasonal Flights Return

San Diego gains a new seasonal route to Oklahoma City, with flights planned for Sundays. Southwest will also restore seasonal connections to Bozeman, Columbus, Milwaukee and Pittsburgh. These returning services sit beyond the 11 routes highlighted in the main expansion. Southwest plans up to 150 daily flights at San Diego during summer. It will also increase flights on established routes. San Diego to Austin will reach six flights on peak days. Seattle will receive three flights each weekday. More frequent service can offer greater choice when planning a trip. However, the Sunday schedule to Oklahoma City provides fewer departure options.

The Wider Summer Plan Reaches Far Beyond Eleven Routes

The 11 routes capture only part of Southwest’s summer changes. Across its network, the airline plans 4,498 flights on peak days. Southwest describes this as its largest summer schedule. Las Vegas will reach up to 278 daily flights. Orlando will reach up to 173. Those totals represent increases of up to 12 and 17 flights respectively compared with the previous summer. Daily seasonal service between Las Vegas and Anchorage returns in June. Bozeman also reconnects seasonally with Chicago Midway and Dallas. These additions show why the broader announcement includes more routes than the headline figure alone might suggest to readers.

The Summer Dates Need a Closer Look

Southwest opened the schedule for booking on 2 October 2026. The published summer window runs from 3 June to 2 August 2027. These dates describe the schedule period. They do not mean every new route begins on 3 June. Saturday and Sunday services follow their own operating days. Travellers should also avoid assuming that every route ends on the same date. The airline plans different schedules across the week. It will publish a reduced schedule for 4 July separately. Checking the exact outbound and return flights is therefore essential before matching airline tickets with hotel stays or other holiday plans.

Easier Journeys Could Help Holiday Businesses

The expansion could help tourism by making some journeys easier. A nonstop flight removes the need to change planes along the way. That can make a destination more appealing to families and people taking shorter breaks. Hotels, restaurants and local transport firms may benefit if the extra flights bring more visitors. However, new routes alone cannot prove that tourism income will rise. Passenger demand, ticket prices and available rooms will also shape results. Southwest has not provided route forecasts for visitor spending or tourism jobs in the reviewed announcement. The clear change is greater access. Its economic impact remains uncertain.

More Choice Makes Careful Booking Even More Important

The summer expansion gives travellers more places to reach without changing planes. It also brings a simple message: check the details before booking. The announcement does not provide complete flight times, fares or aircraft details for every route. Nor does extra capacity guarantee cheaper tickets. Travellers should compare the full journey cost and confirm both travel dates. Weekend services may suit a week away but offer less choice for other trip lengths. Southwest’s plans create fresh possibilities across its growing summer network. The strongest benefit is practical: more direct links between the places people leave and the destinations they want.
