Tunisia is expanding its tourism presence in China by increasing its representation at major trade platforms and showcasing tailored travel experiences to Chinese tourists. As part of this push, the Tunisian National Tourist Office will participate in the China Outbound and Inbound International Travel Market (COITM) in Beijing from October 14 to 16, 2026, targeting one of the world’s largest outbound travel markets.
The event will enable Tunisian officials to engage directly with Chinese tour operators, travel agencies, customized holiday planners, and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) specialists. Tunisia aims to highlight its Mediterranean coastline, archaeological landmarks, desert landscapes, and luxury offerings to broaden its tourist appeal.
Strong Momentum in Tourist Arrivals
The strategic focus on China is backed by steady growth in visitor numbers. Tourism data shows Tunisia welcomed nearly 28,000 Chinese tourists in 2025, a 19.3% increase compared to the previous year.Growth continued into 2026, with Chinese arrivals up 12% in the first quarter.
A primary catalyst for this upward trajectory is the visa exemption policy introduced in September 2023. The rule allows eligible Chinese citizens to stay in Tunisia visa-free for up to 90 days, significantly simplifying entry procedures and travel planning.

Enhancing Services for Chinese Visitors
To sustain this momentum, Tunisia is upgrading its local infrastructure and hospitality services to meet the specific expectations of Chinese travelers. Key initiatives include:
- Language Capability: Expanding training programs for Chinese-speaking tour guides.
- Tailored Offerings: Developing specialized packages covering cultural heritage, desert excursions, and business travel.
- Industry Collaboration: Educating local hospitality providers on Chinese consumer preferences and payment ecosystems.
By combining simplified entry rules, direct industry engagement at COITM, and improved on-the-ground support, Tunisia continues to strengthen its footprint in the expanding Chinese outbound travel market.
