Ras Al Khaimah has entered a new phase of tourism expansion after welcoming more than six hundred seventy thousand visitors in the first half of 2026, driven by a sharp rise in domestic travel, growing interest from international markets including India, China, Germany and the UK, and continued progress on major developments such as new luxury resorts, Wynn Al Marjan Island and advanced transport infrastructure. The record performance highlights the emirate’s growing appeal as a year-round leisure destination and strengthens its ambition to attract millions of travellers through enhanced hospitality, adventure experiences and global connectivity.

Ras Al Khaimah recorded its strongest first-half tourism performance in 2026 after receiving more than 670,000 visitors, supported by a remarkable rise in domestic travel, continued hotel development and progress on several major tourism infrastructure projects. Arrivals from within the UAE increased by 47 per cent year on year as residents increasingly selected the northern emirate for short holidays, weekend breaks and nature-based escapes. The strong domestic market helped protect the destination from regional disruption that temporarily affected international travel flows.

May 2026 became the most successful month for tourism in Ras Al Khaimah’s history. The result highlighted the emirate’s growing position as an accessible leisure destination offering beaches, mountains, family resorts, luxury accommodation and adventure experiences within a relatively compact area.

Hotel room rates remained broadly comparable with those recorded in 2025, suggesting that tourism growth was supported by higher visitor volumes rather than sharp price increases. Meanwhile, new hotels, entertainment attractions, coastal developments, aviation facilities and mobility projects continued to move towards completion.

UAE Staycations Drive Record Tourism Performance

Domestic tourism emerged as the most important contributor to Ras Al Khaimah’s visitor growth during the first six months of 2026. UAE residents increasingly travelled to the emirate for short breaks, particularly during weekends, public holidays and periods when international journeys faced uncertainty.

A domestic tourism campaign generated approximately 224,000 hotel room nights during the second quarter of the year. It also produced Dh104.4 million in hotel room revenue, demonstrating the financial importance of the local travel market to accommodation providers.

The campaign was estimated to have attracted an additional 127,817 visitors. This represented an increase of 67.1 per cent compared with the corresponding period of the previous year.

Promotion was supported through partnerships with several international and regional travel-booking platforms. These digital distribution channels helped Ras Al Khaimah reach families, couples, adventure travellers and residents seeking coastal or mountain holidays without leaving the UAE.

Domestic demand also supported hotel occupancy during a period when conflict and airspace disruption affected some international travel routes across the wider region.

India, China, Europe and GCC Markets Remain Important

Although UAE residents played the leading role in the record performance, international tourism will remain essential to Ras Al Khaimah’s long-term expansion. India and China offer significant potential because of their large outbound travel markets, expanding middle-class populations and growing interest in short-haul leisure destinations.

India is particularly important because of its geographical proximity, extensive air connections with the UAE and strong demand for family holidays, destination weddings, premium resorts and short international breaks. Ras Al Khaimah’s beaches, adventure attractions and expanding accommodation portfolio could support broader appeal among Indian travellers.

China also represents an important opportunity as outbound tourism continues to recover and travellers seek destinations combining luxury shopping, family entertainment, coastal resorts and culturally distinctive experiences.

Western European countries, including Germany and the UK, remain relevant because travellers from these markets traditionally seek winter sunshine, beach holidays, outdoor activities and high-quality resort accommodation. Ras Al Khaimah’s mountain landscape and warm climate provide an alternative to better-known Middle Eastern city destinations.

Fellow member states of the GCC, including Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman and Qatar, also form a natural regional market. Road connectivity, short flight times and cultural familiarity make the emirate suitable for weekend breaks, school-holiday travel and luxury family stays.

No individual arrival figures were provided for these international markets in the first-half results. However, their importance is expected to increase as new hotels, aviation services and premium attractions enter operation.

Coastal and Mountain Hotels Expand Accommodation Choice

Two new hotels are scheduled to open during the second half of 2026, adding further diversity to Ras Al Khaimah’s accommodation sector.

Rotana Ras Al Khaimah The Mangroves is expected to open at Al Qawasim Corniche during the third quarter. The property will contain 258 rooms and will target leisure visitors, business travellers, wedding groups and conference organisers.

Its facilities will include one of the largest pillar-free ballrooms in the emirate, ten meeting rooms and an outdoor event space. These additions could strengthen Ras Al Khaimah’s position in the meetings, incentives, conferences and events sector.

SAIJ Mountain Lodge by Mantis is scheduled to open on Jebel Jais during the fourth quarter. The lodge will focus on nature, wellness and experiential tourism. Planned activities include guided hiking, organic farming, beekeeping, stargazing and wellbeing programmes.

The project reflects a wider effort to expand tourism beyond beach resorts and position the Hajar Mountains as a year-round attraction.

Renovation work is also progressing across existing resorts. Pullman Resort Al Marjan Island is expected to reopen during the first quarter of 2027 with modernised accommodation and redesigned interiors.

Rooms and suites within the main building of Rixos Al Mairid Ras Al Khaimah are also being upgraded. Completion is expected during the fourth quarter of 2026, while villas, selected restaurants and beachfront facilities remain operational.

Wynn Al Marjan Island Advances Towards 2027 Opening

Construction of Wynn Al Marjan Island is continuing ahead of its planned opening in 2027. The integrated resort is expected to become one of the most influential tourism developments in the emirate and could significantly increase interest among premium international visitors.

The resort will feature accommodation, dining, entertainment and immersive experiences designed to attract travellers seeking luxury stays and large-scale leisure facilities.

A partnership with an immersive theatre company will introduce a new theatrical production created specifically for the resort. Guests will have the option to experience the show in a traditional seated setting or take part in an immersive journey that allows them to move through different spaces connected to the performance and discover elements beyond the main stage.

The resort will contain 22 restaurants, lounges and bars. Its planned food and entertainment portfolio will include premium dining venues and an international version of a well-established Las Vegas supper-club concept.

The development is likely to increase demand for flights, private aviation, yacht services, luxury transfers and high-end accommodation across Ras Al Khaimah.

Marjan Beach Plans Thousands of Homes and Hotel Rooms

Large coastal developments are being advanced to support the emirate’s population, visitor economy and investment sector.

Marjan Beach is planned as an 85 million-square-foot master development containing eight neighbourhoods. The project is expected to include 22,000 residential units and approximately 12,000 hotel rooms.

The scale of the project indicates that Ras Al Khaimah is preparing for substantial long-term growth in tourism, hospitality, property and supporting services.

RAK Central Square has also reached an important construction stage. Major structural works had been completed, while overall construction progress stood at approximately 25 per cent by June 2026.

The five-building development is scheduled to open during the fourth quarter of 2027. It will include Grade A office space, restaurants and retail outlets within the broader RAK Central district.

Ras Al Khaimah’s gross domestic product reached approximately $13 billion in 2025 after annual economic growth of 4.3 per cent. Tourism is expected to remain a central component of future diversification, with the emirate targeting 3.5 million visitors annually by 2030.

Airport, Autonomous Transport and Air Taxis Move Forward

Transport infrastructure is being expanded to improve movement between hotels, attractions, urban areas and neighbouring emirates.

A new VVIP terminal is under development at Ras Al Khaimah International Airport. The facility is expected to open in early 2027 and will serve private aircraft, premium travellers and visitors using luxury resorts.

The airport’s travel-retail operations are also being upgraded under a newly appointed international duty-free operator.

Three transit stations are being developed to integrate city bus routes, intercity services and tourism destinations around Al Marjan Island. Commercial autonomous shuttle services are expected to begin later in 2026 following an earlier trial.

Air-taxi operations are being targeted for 2027, with Al Marjan Island planned as the first point in a future network connecting Ras Al Khaimah with Dubai.

Maritime cooperation is also being developed to simplify travel by yachts and leisure boats between the two emirates. Visitors can already use the Sayr digital platform to plan journeys, reserve transport and make payments across parts of the mobility network.

Space Training Adds a New Adventure Tourism Dimension

Ras Al Khaimah is preparing to introduce an astronaut-training programme during the second half of 2026. The initiative will combine specialist aviation activities with premium adventure tourism.

Planned experiences include G-force training through aerobatic flights, zero-gravity parabolic flights, advanced freefall exercises and parachuting.

The programme will support commercial spaceflight preparation while also offering unusual experiences for high-spending adventure travellers.

With domestic arrivals increasing, new hotels approaching completion and major projects advancing across Al Marjan Island, Jebel Jais and the airport, Ras Al Khaimah is entering a critical stage of tourism development. Demand from the UAE has provided a strong foundation, while India, China, Germany, the UK and GCC member states could support the destination’s next phase of international visitor growth.
