Seville, Spain, is set to become easier to reach for North American travellers after Air Canada confirmed a new seasonal nonstop service from Montréal, beginning on 8 September 2027. The new connection is expected to create fresh opportunities for holidays in southern Spain, giving visitors a more direct way to explore Andalusia’s historic cities, celebrated cuisine and cultural attractions.

Air Canada Announces New Montréal–Seville Connection

Air Canada has announced plans to introduce direct flights between Montréal, Canada, and Seville, Spain, expanding its European network with another destination for leisure travellers. The service will begin on 8 September 2027, providing a nonstop option for passengers travelling between North America and the Andalusian capital.

According to the airline’s official announcement, the route will operate three times a week initially, increasing to four weekly flights from 1 October 2027. Air Canada says it will be the only airline offering nonstop transatlantic flights to and from Seville when the service launches.

The development is particularly relevant for travellers who want to explore southern Spain without first flying into another major European city. It also strengthens Montréal’s role as a gateway for passengers travelling onwards from other destinations across North America, the Caribbean and Latin America.

New Flights to Open Up Southern Spain

The route could make planning a holiday across Andalusia more convenient. Seville is known for its historic architecture, traditional neighbourhoods, flamenco performances and food culture. It also provides a starting point for exploring other destinations across southern Spain.

Visitors can build itineraries around Seville’s landmarks before continuing to cities such as Córdoba and Granada. These destinations offer a combination of historic palaces, religious architecture, traditional markets and distinctive regional food.

The new service may therefore appeal to travellers looking beyond conventional holidays centred on Madrid or Barcelona. It offers another option for those who want to spend more time exploring Spain’s southern region.

The Spanish government’s official tourism portal, Spain.info, provides destination information for visitors planning cultural trips across the country. Travellers should consult official tourism information when preparing itineraries and checking practical details.

September Launch Targets the Autumn Travel Season

The September launch gives the route an opportunity to serve visitors during the transition from summer to autumn. This period can be attractive for travellers interested in walking tours, outdoor sightseeing and cultural experiences.

Seville’s summer heat can make extended sightseeing demanding, particularly during the hottest parts of the day. The milder conditions often associated with autumn and spring can make it easier to explore historic streets, gardens and open-air attractions.

The new connection is also scheduled to operate during parts of the winter and spring travel seasons. However, it will not run continuously throughout the year.

Air Canada’s published schedule lists Montréal departures from 8 September 2027 to 8 January 2028, with service resuming on 18 February 2028 and continuing until 3 June. Return flights from Seville are scheduled from 9 September 2027 to 9 January 2028, before resuming on 19 February and operating until 4 June 2028.

Travellers should check the airline’s website for exact dates, flight availability and any subsequent timetable changes before booking.

Airbus A321XLR to Operate the Route

Air Canada plans to use its Airbus A321XLR aircraft on the new service. The aircraft will have 182 seats, comprising 14 Signature Class seats that convert into lie-flat beds and 168 Economy Class seats.

The aircraft’s long-range capability allows airlines to consider routes that may not require the passenger capacity of a larger wide-body aircraft. For Seville, this provides Air Canada with another way to expand its transatlantic network.

The airline has also announced other European route developments from Montréal for 2027, including services to Basel-Mulhouse and Dubrovnik. The Seville connection forms part of this wider expansion.

Flights are available through Air Canada’s official website and travel agents. The airline notes that published schedules and operating details may change.

Seville Airport Records Strong Passenger Growth

Official airport statistics indicate that Seville is already attracting substantial numbers of domestic and international travellers.

According to Spanish airport operator Aena, Seville Airport handled 9,686,487 passengers in 2025, representing growth of 5.6% compared with 2024. International traffic accounted for 5,202,855 passengers, with overseas traffic increasing by more than 11% during the year.

These figures underline the airport’s growing importance as an international entry point to southern Spain. The additional Montréal service could broaden its reach by introducing a direct transatlantic connection.

In July 2026, Seville City Council also presented the city’s tourism and economic potential to Air Canada during discussions aimed at securing a direct Canadian connection. The council reported that more than 104,000 passengers travelled between Montréal and Andalusia in 2025, although all those journeys involved connecting flights.

The council also cited a 47% increase in searches for travel between Seville and Montréal over the preceding year. These figures suggest an existing market for the route, although searches do not necessarily translate into completed bookings.

What the New Route Means for Travellers

For Canadian holidaymakers, the service offers a more direct way to reach Seville. Passengers connecting through Montréal may also be able to include the city in broader itineraries linking North America with southern Europe.

The route could create opportunities for tour operators to develop packages combining historic attractions, regional cuisine, guided walks and visits to other Andalusian cities. Hotels and local tourism businesses may also benefit if the service attracts additional visitors.

However, the actual effect on visitor numbers will depend on passenger demand, fares and the route’s commercial performance after launch. The announcement does not guarantee lower ticket prices or a specific increase in tourism.

For now, the main benefit is a new travel option that reduces the need for an intermediate stop for passengers flying directly between Montréal and Seville.

A New Chapter for Seville’s International Connectivity

For travellers dreaming of discovering southern Spain, the new connection offers another reason to consider Seville for a future holiday. From its historic streets and cultural traditions to the wider attractions of Andalusia, the city gives visitors plenty of ways to build a memorable trip.

Air Canada’s planned service is also an important development for Seville’s international connections. If demand proves strong, the route could help bring more North American visitors to the region and strengthen links between Canada and southern Spain. For anyone planning a 2027 trip, checking the operating dates early will be essential to making the most of this new flight option.
