European hotels must now connect generative engine optimisation with transparent AI interactions, defensible attribution and human-controlled content as key EU AI Act transparency obligations begin applying on 2 August 2026. The Madrid-headquartered technology group introduced Performance Manager – AI Search on 16 June 2026 as part of a wider hospitality AI expansion. The service structures hotel content for visibility in AI-generated results and forms a foundation for generative engine optimisation. Early pilots recorded 44.7% of AI-driven visitors reaching a booking engine, compared with 25.9% from organic search.
That produces an 18.8 percentage-point advantage and a calculated relative uplift of about 72.6%. A visitor can enter the booking environment, compare rates and leave without reserving. The announcement does not publish pilot sample size, hotel names, locations, traffic volumes, AI platforms, completed reservations, revenue, cancellations or acquisition cost. The evidence therefore supports a qualified-traffic argument, not a proven return-on-investment benchmark.

Amadeus’s June 2026 terms state that Performance Manager – AI Search provides content optimisation recommendations and implementation, but no paid inclusion or guaranteed visibility on any AI platform. It also offers no guaranteed ranking, sentiment, traffic, booking or revenue outcome.
AI-platform reporting is classified as directional and indicative. Accuracy may be affected by sampling limitations, citation decay, third-party reporting availability and platform changes. Hotel customers remain responsible for reviewing content and correctly implementing approved changes, code and schema markup.
This changes the commercial interpretation. GEO cannot be managed like a fixed media placement. AI answers change, citations disappear and referral identifiers may be incomplete. Hotels need measurement connecting AI visibility to booking-engine sessions, availability searches, reservations, net revenue and cancellations.
The strategy extends beyond discoverability. The planned AI commerce solution uses Amadeus Central Reservation System, iHotelier and distribution capabilities to support hotel participation in AI-powered marketplaces, with conversational journeys moving towards live availability, merchandising, payment and booking.
The Universal Commerce Protocol roadmap lists lodging functions for discovery, room selection, rate options, guest details, booking and payment scheduling. Detailed lodging specifications remain forthcoming, meaning commercial development is moving faster than final technical standardisation.
MICE distribution is also included. Planned Amadeus Max functions for Delphi and MeetingBroker cover assessment of group and event requests, opportunity scoring, proposal generation and real-time availability. Generative workflows could therefore enter meeting rooms, event spaces and group accommodation as well as leisure bookings.
Travel Dreams 2026 surveyed 6,000 travellers and 500 senior hotel executives or destination organisations. Only one hotel respondent was not planning AI investment in 2026. Average planned spending reached US$320,000 per hotel and US$400,000 in the United States, while GEO and SEO ranked as the leading demand-generation priority.
The research also records that 69% of travellers reportedly rely solely on AI search summaries. Its findings are explicitly forward-looking and indicative. The 44.7% result indicates a potentially shorter discovery funnel. AI users may arrive after asking detailed questions about location, facilities, trip purpose or price, so their intent can be more developed than that of a broad organic-search visitor. Yet value remains unknown until a hotel separates correlation from incrementality.
A robust model should identify the AI source where technically possible, preserve referral parameters, record the landing page, track booking-engine movement, measure availability searches, capture reservations and reconcile cancellations. It should compare average daily rate, length of stay, ancillary spend and net contribution against organic, paid, metasearch, OTA and agency channels.
Without that layer, hotels may optimise for answer-engine visibility while overlooking acquisition cost and channel conflict. An AI assistant could send a user direct, surface an OTA, complete a transaction inside an external interface or fail to cite the property. The strategic contest is therefore over who controls discovery, customer identity, merchandising, payment and post-booking service.
Better-structured hotel information could reduce search time and make room attributes, policies and availability easier to find. The risk is that generated answers can omit, modify or misrepresent content, a limitation recognised in Amadeus’s AI policy and terms. Human verification remains essential for cancellation rules, accessibility, taxes, resort fees and booking conditions.
For travel agencies and tour operators, AI could compress the space between inspiration and transaction. Businesses built around itinerary design, negotiated inventory, duty of care and disruption support need structured content that AI systems can retrieve, alongside a clear handover to controlled booking and servicing environments.
The pilot offers a clear early signal that AI-referred hotel traffic may enter the shopping funnel with stronger intent than organic traffic. Its greater significance lies in unresolved attribution quality, commercial incrementality, platform dependence, content accuracy and compliance.
Madrid’s technology ecosystem, the HITEC San Antonio industry setting and the European Union’s imminent transparency regime now converge around one question. Hotels can no longer treat AI search as an experimental content channel. It is becoming distribution infrastructure. The winners will connect trustworthy content, live inventory, measurable economics, transparent interactions and reliable human service across the international travel journey.
