Belgium Steps into Spotlight with Antwerp Hosting 2027 World Tunnel Congress

Antwerp has been chosen as the hosting city for the World Tunnel Congress (WTC) 2027. Running from April 23 to April 29, 2027, this event marks Belgium’s debut as the host nation, underscoring its rising prominence in the global tunnel and underground construction arena.

The announcement was made during the World Tunnel Congress 2024 in Shenzhen, China, last week. The Belgian Tunnel Association (ABTUS-BVOTS), in partnership with the International Tunnelling and Underground Space Association (ITA), will spearhead the organization, with AIM Group Belgium serving as the Professional Congress Organizer (PCO).

WTC 2027 will convene over 2,700 leading experts, researchers, policymakers, and industry representatives from diverse sectors such as civil engineering, construction, transportation, and infrastructure. The gathering aims to facilitate knowledge exchange, highlight innovations, and deliberate on the future trajectory of tunnelling and underground technology.

Antwerp Convention Bureau’s CEO, Tadeja Pivc Coudyser said: “We are thrilled to host the World Tunnel Congress 2027 here in Antwerp.
