All Nippon Airways (ANA) has introduced a significantly enhanced international in-flight duty-free pre-order platform, giving passengers greater flexibility, a wider range of exclusive products and a more convenient shopping experience before they travel. The renewed service will be available for eligible international flights departing from 1 August 2026, marking a major upgrade to the airline’s onboard retail offering.

The redesigned platform enables travellers to browse and reserve duty-free products well before departure, even if they have not yet completed a flight booking. Alongside an expanded multilingual interface and advance online payment, ANA is also launching a promotional campaign offering discounts of up to 15% on selected products to celebrate the service’s relaunch.

ANA Expands Digital Duty-Free Shopping Before International Flights

The upgraded pre-order service has been developed to simplify international duty-free shopping while giving passengers access to a significantly broader product catalogue than what is typically available during a flight.

Customers can now visit the dedicated pre-order website using either a computer or smartphone to explore products at any time. Unlike the previous version, browsing is no longer limited to passengers with confirmed reservations, allowing potential travellers to view available items before finalising travel plans.

ANA has also expanded language support to improve accessibility for international customers. In addition to Japanese and English, the website is now available in Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Italian and Spanish, making it easier for travellers from key global markets to navigate the platform.

The improvements reflect the airline’s continued investment in enhancing the digital customer experience before passengers even reach the airport.

Earlier Ordering Window Gives Travellers More Flexibility

One of the biggest enhancements is the extension of the duty-free pre-order period.

Passengers can now place orders from 45 days before departure, giving them considerably more time to browse products and secure popular items before stock becomes limited.

For flights departing from Japan, orders can be placed until two days before departure, while passengers departing from overseas destinations can complete purchases up to three days before departure.

This longer ordering period provides several advantages. Travellers planning holidays or business trips can compare products at their own pace, avoid last-minute decisions and improve their chances of purchasing limited-stock items that may not remain available onboard.

The extended booking window also allows ANA to better manage inventory and ensure products are prepared for delivery during the flight.

Around 300 Products Available Through the New Platform

The renewed website offers access to approximately 300 duty-free products, significantly exceeding the range normally available onboard.

Because aircraft storage space naturally limits the number of products carried during each flight, many exclusive items cannot usually be offered in the cabin. The pre-order platform removes this restriction by allowing passengers to reserve products before departure.

Customers can also check product availability in real time while placing orders, reducing uncertainty about stock levels.

The expanded selection includes numerous exclusive products that are not featured in the airline’s ANA SKY SHOP in-flight shopping magazine, giving passengers access to a wider variety of premium merchandise, gifts and travel purchases.

By shifting more sales online before departure, ANA is also able to showcase a larger catalogue without increasing onboard storage requirements.

Advance Online Payment Streamlines the Onboard Experience

Another important feature introduced with the redesigned service is advance online payment.

Passengers can now complete payment details during the ordering process using eligible credit cards or debit cards.

Rather than processing payments during the flight, customers simply receive their reserved items onboard, making the collection process quicker and more convenient for both travellers and cabin crew.

The actual card transaction is finalised only after the passenger receives the purchased products during the flight.

Cash payments are not supported under the new system, reflecting ANA’s continued move towards more efficient digital transactions.

Reducing payment procedures onboard also helps cabin crews dedicate more time to passenger service while minimising interruptions during the journey.

Launch Campaign Offers Savings on Selected Duty-Free Purchases

To encourage customers to use the upgraded platform, ANA has introduced a Pre-Order Service Renewal Campaign.

As part of the promotion, eligible products will receive discounts of up to 15%, providing travellers with an additional incentive to place orders before departure instead of relying solely on onboard purchases.

The campaign also highlights ANA’s intention to increase customer awareness of the new platform and demonstrate the benefits of reserving products in advance.

Early ordering not only offers financial savings on selected items but also provides greater certainty that preferred products will be available during the flight.

Customer Experience Remains at the Centre of ANA’s Strategy

Commenting on the launch, Keiji Omae, Member of the Board and Executive Vice President of Customer Experience at ANA, said the redesigned platform reflects the airline’s commitment to improving passenger convenience throughout the travel journey.

According to Omae, the upgraded service combines a wider range of exclusive products with a longer pre-order period, enabling customers to enjoy a smoother and more seamless in-flight shopping experience.

The airline believes these enhancements will make duty-free shopping more accessible while integrating digital convenience into every stage of international travel.

Growing Focus on Digital Services Across the Airline Industry

The introduction of ANA’s enhanced pre-order platform reflects a broader trend across the aviation sector, where airlines continue investing in digital technologies that simplify passenger journeys beyond airport operations.

Online pre-order systems have become increasingly important as airlines seek to personalise services, improve inventory management and reduce onboard transaction times.

By enabling passengers to browse products weeks before departure, verify stock availability and complete payment arrangements in advance, airlines can deliver a more predictable retail experience while improving operational efficiency.

For travellers, these developments mean greater convenience, broader product choice and less time spent making purchases during the flight itself.

With its redesigned multilingual platform, expanded product catalogue, longer ordering window and streamlined payment process, ANA has positioned its international duty-free service to better meet the expectations of today’s digitally connected global travellers while strengthening the airline’s overall customer experience strategy.
