IndiGo Enforces Comprehensive Flight Suspension Across Four Crucial Saudi Arabian Gateways Until October 31

The air connectivity between Saudi Arabia and India will be further disrupted due to the extension by IndiGo of the cancellation of their flights between Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, and Madinah up to October 31, 2026. The development impacts the tourists, Umrah pilgrims, business travellers, and families that plan trips between the two nations. According to the airline, the development has been caused by the changing security situation, and passengers’ and crew safety is one of the core concerns in their operations.
IndiGo Extends Flight Cancellations Across Four Saudi Cities
IndiGo initially announced that flights connecting India with Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam and Madinah would remain cancelled until October 17. The airline subsequently extended the suspension until October 24 as regional security concerns continued to affect aviation operations.

On October 23, the carrier announced another extension, stating that Riyadh flights would remain cancelled through October 31, while services to and from Jeddah, Dammam and Madinah would be suspended until October 27.
However, the airline issued a further update on October 24, extending the cancellations for Jeddah, Dammam and Madinah through October 31 as well.

Consequently, all four Saudi destinations are now covered by the same cancellation deadline.
IndiGo said it was closely monitoring developments and coordinating with relevant authorities to assess the situation and ensure safe flight operations.

Saudi Arabia Tourism and Religious Travel Face Disruptions
The suspension affects access to several destinations that serve different categories of international visitors.
Jeddah is one of the principal international gateways for travellers visiting Saudi Arabia for religious tourism. Its location along the Red Sea also makes it an important entry point for visitors exploring the country’s western region.

For Indian Umrah pilgrims, Jeddah is particularly important because of its connectivity to Mecca. Travellers generally continue their journeys by road from the city to the holy destination.
Madinah is another major destination for religious visitors. The city attracts pilgrims visiting Al-Masjid an-Nabawi, alongside international travellers interested in its Islamic heritage and historical landmarks.
The suspension of flights to both cities creates additional challenges for visitors with confirmed pilgrimage arrangements, particularly those travelling through organised Umrah packages.
Travellers who have already reached Saudi Arabia may also face difficulties coordinating their return journeys, particularly when their original departure dates fall within the extended cancellation period.

Riyadh and Dammam Disruptions Affect Business and Leisure Travel
Riyadh and Dammam are important destinations for India’s business and commercial travel markets.
Riyadh, the Saudi capital, attracts international visitors through its financial districts, cultural attractions, museums and entertainment destinations. Tourists visiting the city can explore Boulevard City, the National Museum and the historic Diriyah district.
Dammam provides access to Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province and its coastal attractions along the Arabian Gulf. Visitors can explore the Dammam Corniche, waterfront recreation areas and nearby Al Khobar.
The city’s wider regional connectivity also makes it relevant for travellers visiting Dhahran and other commercial centres in the Eastern Province.
The extended flight cancellations therefore affect more than direct tourism connections, with potential consequences for visitors combining multiple Saudi destinations within one itinerary.
Indian Travellers Advised to Check Flight Status
IndiGo has advised passengers to monitor their flight status and follow communications sent through the contact details registered during booking.

Travellers scheduled to fly between India and Saudi Arabia should verify their individual bookings before travelling to the airport. Passengers who have booked through travel agents or tour operators should also contact their respective providers to understand available alternatives.
Umrah pilgrims should coordinate with their pilgrimage operators regarding accommodation, ground transportation, visa validity and revised departure arrangements.
Passengers should avoid assuming that flights will resume immediately after October 31, as the airline’s operational decisions remain dependent on security assessments and coordination with relevant authorities.
Wider Airline Disruptions Affect Saudi Arabia Connectivity
IndiGo’s decision is one of many aviation-related disruptions that are currently being faced by international flights going to or coming from Saudi Arabia. Both Air India and Air India Express have extended their suspensions on some Saudi routes as well. The latest advisory released by the former on October 24 stated the suspension of their flights from Riyadh and Dammam up to November 7, while from Jeddah till October 31. Akasa Air has independently extended its suspensions for its Saudi Arabia operations. In addition, the Indian Consulate General at Jeddah has been helping Indians affected by the disruptions, especially those undertaking the Umrah pilgrimage with issues regarding accommodation and delays in departures. These events emphasise the need to be informed of each airline’s travel advisory and not to depend on previous schedules.
