Stanley Hui, CEO of Greater Bay Airlines (GBA), has expressed his strong endorsement for the Legislative Council’s (LegCo) approval of the Safeguarding National Security Bill’s third reading. He highlighted that the Bill aligns perfectly with Hong Kong SAR’s constitutional obligations and the criteria for national security as outlined in Article 23 of the Basic Law, ensuring robust and effective national security measures in Hong Kong.

At 6:53pm on March 19, a significant milestone was reached in the history of Hong Kong SAR with the unanimous passage of the Bill by all 89 votes during its third reading in LegCo, a rare occurrence for LegCo President Andrew Leung to cast a vote. Set to be officially published and enacted on March 23, this act represents the fulfillment of a long-standing constitutional responsibility of Hong Kong SAR, closing a nearly 27-year gap and addressing a critical national security concern. This marks the beginning of a new era for Hong Kong.

Hui is optimistic about the future of Hong Kong, attributing this to the combined strength of the National Security Law and Article 23 of the Basic Law in forming a robust legal framework for national security. This framework is key to maintaining Hong Kong’s long-term stability and the successful practice of the “One Country, Two Systems” principle. He believes that Hong Kong’s secure, stable, free, and diverse environment, supported by a strong legal system, will further attract both local and international investors, ensuring a bright future for the city. As a local airline, GBA is committed to supporting Hong Kong’s role as a global aviation hub and contributing to its economic growth.
