Greater Bay Airlines (GBA) is excited to announce its new membership in the International Air Transport Association (IATA), following the successful completion of the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) certification process. This achievement opens the door for GBA to collaborate with fellow IATA members through bilateral agreements, including interline and codeshare partnerships.

Mr Wong Cho Bau, Chairman of GBA, said, “We are delighted to attain the IATA membership which is a recognition of GBA’s uncompromising commitment to flight safety. As the youngest Hong Kong-based airline, GBA shares the IATA vision of working together to shape the future growth of a safe, secure and sustainable air transport industry.”

The IOSA program is a globally recognized and accepted evaluation process that assesses an airline’s operational management and control systems using a risk-based approach. It establishes a uniform standard for safety and operational procedures worldwide, thereby enhancing the utility and sharing of audit reports. A key component of IOSA is the development of a Safety Management System, aimed at identifying and mitigating safety risks to enhance safety performance. IATA membership requires airlines to be IOSA-certified and maintain that status.

IATA, established in 1945, serves as the trade association for the world’s foremost passenger and cargo airlines, representing about 320 airlines from over 120 countries, which accounts for 83% of total air traffic. It plays a crucial role in supporting various facets of the aviation industry and shaping policies on key aviation issues.

Since commencing its scheduled services in July 2022, GBA has been operating flights to several destinations, including Bangkok, Taipei, Seoul, Tokyo, Osaka, Manila, and more, utilizing a fleet of seven Boeing 737-800 aircraft. The airline is set to expand its services to Singapore starting 26 April 2024.
