Indonesia tourism all set develop a green and sustainable environment

Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, Indonesian tourism and creative economy minister, confirmed that in realizing a green and sustainable economy, tourism played a major role. Uno said that he praises the one who took part in Indonesia’s green energy and climate particularly those associated in developing an environmentally-friendly and sustainable tourism on an direct basis to construct a pioneering business and speed up energy transition that improves Indonesian economy and environmental issues.


Later on, he said that on the basis of 2018’s Nature Climate Change research, the carbon footprint of the tourism industry on a worldwide basis contributed eight percent of the carbon emissions in the whole world.


In the tourism industry, few of the prime emission sources comprise energy from hotels, tourist attractions, transportation, food and beverage, to waste generated from activities related to travel.

Uno stated that what is more alarming is that majority of travel activities to still make use of fossil fuels and contribute huge carbon emissions.

He confirmed that his ministry had carried on several programs to realize environmentally friendly and sustainable tourism. The Carbon Footprint Calculator being the one of the recent programs done by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy.


The minister observed that the CFPC has become country’s evidence in attaining the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) target in climate commitment and action in 2030 by decreasing emission of greenhouse gas to 29 percent.
