Noida International Airport has welcomed H.E. Guy Parmelin, President of the Swiss Confederation, during his official visit to India, underlining the growing link between Swiss aviation expertise and one of India’s most significant airport infrastructure projects.

President Parmelin was accompanied by H.E. Maya Tissafi, Ambassador of Switzerland to India, Hon’ble Minister Shri Sunil Sharma of the Uttar Pradesh Government’s Ministry of Electronics and IT, and a senior delegation of government representatives and business leaders.

The visit placed international attention on the airport’s progress, its future operating model and the wider role it is expected to play in improving access to Delhi NCR and Uttar Pradesh. It also demonstrated the importance of overseas investment, technical knowledge and long-term partnerships in India’s aviation expansion.

Noida International Airport’s leadership team and representatives from Zurich Airport International AG received the delegation. Zurich Airport International is closely associated with the development of the Jewar airport project, bringing international airport planning and operational experience to a fast-growing Indian aviation market.

Terminal, ATC and Airside Facilities Showcased

During the visit, President Parmelin and the delegation toured key facilities across the airport campus. These included the passenger terminal, air traffic control infrastructure and important airside areas.

The tour gave the visiting delegation a first-hand view of the airport’s design, use of technology and preparations for efficient airport operations. For passengers, these elements matter because they shape the journey from check-in and security to boarding, baggage delivery and onward surface transport.

Airport infrastructure is not only about runways and terminal buildings. It requires a coordinated system that can safely manage aircraft movement, passengers, airlines, baggage, ground handling, retail services, security and emergency response. The inclusion of the terminal, ATC and airside areas in the visit showed the scale of planning required before an airport can operate reliably.

Noida International Airport is being positioned as a major aviation gateway for the National Capital Region. Its development is expected to support travel demand from Noida, Greater Noida, Jewar and surrounding parts of Uttar Pradesh, while also creating another option for travellers using the wider Delhi region.

Swiss Expertise Meets Uttar Pradesh Growth Plans

The visit carried wider significance because Noida International Airport is being developed with the involvement of Zurich Airport International AG, an experienced Swiss airport operator and developer.

Swiss airport expertise is particularly relevant in areas such as operational efficiency, passenger movement, safety processes, technology integration and sustainability planning. For a new airport, the challenge is not simply to build capacity. It is to establish systems that can continue working as passenger volumes, airline operations and commercial activity increase over time.

The Government of Uttar Pradesh has made infrastructure-led development a central part of its investment strategy. Large transport projects, industrial growth, logistics development and new urban activity are increasingly shaping the state’s economic outlook. An airport of this scale can support that wider ambition by making the region more accessible to investors, visitors, exporters and businesses.

For tourism, better airport connectivity can shorten travel times and improve the ease of reaching heritage, leisure, spiritual and business destinations across northern India. It can also help travellers consider Uttar Pradesh as more than a stopover region by giving them a clearer, more convenient arrival point.

Focus on Passenger Experience and Sustainability

Noida International Airport said the delegation was briefed on its sustainability initiatives, passenger experience philosophy and future growth plans.

Passenger experience has become a defining factor for modern airports. Travellers increasingly expect clear wayfinding, faster processing, accessible facilities, dependable digital information, comfortable waiting areas and smoother transfers. These expectations apply to business travellers, families, international visitors and first-time flyers alike.

A passenger-centred approach can also support airline growth. Airlines benefit when airport processes are efficient, aircraft turnarounds are well managed and passengers can move through the terminal with fewer avoidable delays. For the wider travel sector, this creates opportunities for hotels, transport providers, travel agencies, tour operators, retailers and local attractions.

Sustainability is also becoming a more important consideration in airport development. Airports must balance the need for greater connectivity with responsible design, energy management, resource use and operational planning. Noida International Airport’s sustainability focus will therefore be closely watched as the project develops further.

A Long-Term Gateway for Delhi NCR

Christoph Schnellmann, Vice Chairman of Noida International Airport, said the visit offered an opportunity to present the airport’s development progress and the principles guiding its future operations.

“It was a privilege to welcome H.E. Guy Parmelin and the accompanying delegation to Noida International Airport,” Schnellmann said. “The visit provided an opportunity to present the progress made across the airport and the approach guiding its development and future operations.”

He added that the airport would draw on Zurich Airport’s international experience while focusing on safety, efficiency and passenger needs.

The visit also reflected the broader India–Switzerland relationship, where investment, technology, innovation and infrastructure cooperation continue to create new areas for engagement. In aviation, such partnerships can have an impact well beyond the airport boundary by supporting jobs, logistics, regional development and visitor mobility.

For Noida International Airport, the visit was a high-level endorsement of its place in Uttar Pradesh’s future transport landscape. The project is intended to serve a large and expanding catchment area, while easing pressure on existing airport capacity in the Delhi NCR region over the longer term.

Swiss President Guy Parmelin’s visit puts Noida International Airport’s international partnership and future ambitions in focus. With Zurich Airport expertise, Uttar Pradesh support and a passenger-led approach, the airport aims to strengthen Delhi NCR connectivity, support regional tourism and business growth, and create a modern long-term aviation gateway.
