Image generated with AiJordan is experiencing a significant surge in tourism, with 2025 marking one of its strongest years yet. Despite earlier challenges caused by the pandemic and regional unrest, the country is now reaping the benefits of strategic investments in infrastructure and hospitality. With new hotels, expanded air routes, and a focus on cultural and adventure tourism, Jordan is becoming an even more attractive destination for travelers seeking history, nature, and unique experiences.
According to Ahmad M. Ahlmoud, Marketing Director of the Jordan Tourism Board (JTB), the first half of 2025 saw record-breaking numbers for both visitor arrivals and revenue. Between January and June 2025, Jordan welcomed 3.29 million tourists, an impressive 18% increase from the same period in 2024. This growth is a clear indicator of a tourism recovery, following a decade of challenges, including the global pandemic and regional instability.
Tourism revenue also saw a notable boost. From January to May 2025, the sector generated approximately JD 2.167 billion (around $3.06 billion), which marks a 16% increase over the previous year. This growth reflects the diverse appeal of Jordan, which offers a rich blend of culture, history, adventure, and natural beauty. Visitors are drawn to its renowned landmarks such as Petra, the Dead Sea, and the Red Sea resorts, along with a growing variety of travel experiences.
A major driver of this growth has been the booming Dead Sea region, which experienced a 14% rise in visitors in the first half of 2025. The region welcomed 2.717 million visitors, with daily visitor numbers climbing by a striking 40%. Experts attribute this rise to a combination of upgraded infrastructure, higher service standards, and government efforts to support job creation within the tourism sector. The Jordanian government has made tourism a key focus, implementing a range of initiatives designed to boost the economy and provide sustainable development in the sector.

The growing demand for accommodation in Jordan has led to an expansion of high-quality hotels and resorts. The Aqaba region, on the Red Sea, has seen the opening of new luxury resorts such as the Westin Saraya Aqaba Resort & Spa and the Al Manara, part of the Luxury Collection by Marriott. In addition, several private hotels have opened this year, offering more options for both luxury and budget-conscious travelers. This hotel boom supports Jordan’s goal of becoming a world-class destination for both relaxation and adventure.
Air connectivity is another key factor in Jordan’s tourism rebound. The launch of new flights and increased frequencies by low-cost airlines like Ryanair, Wizz Air, and Eurowings are making it easier for travelers from Europe and other parts of the world to visit Jordan. Between January and June 2025, European overnight arrivals increased by 11.1%, bringing the total to 351,572 travelers. This surge in numbers is a result of new routes, as well as the expansion of existing services. Ryanair, for example, plans to operate 84 weekly flights from Jordan’s capital Amman this winter, a significant increase from earlier years. By offering affordable flight options, these airlines make it easier for tourists to access Jordan, keeping travel costs reasonable and opening up the country to a broader market.

Efforts to diversify Jordan’s tourism offerings are also paying off. While Petra remains the country’s most famous attraction, the Jordan Tourism Board is promoting a variety of other experiences. These include Red Sea cruises, Bedouin cultural tours, and gastronomy-focused travel. Adventure tourism in Jordan’s vast deserts, as well as sustainable tourism experiences that engage with local communities, are drawing increasing interest from environmentally conscious travelers.
Looking ahead, Jordan’s tourism prospects for 2026 are even more promising. The increased air connectivity, coupled with a strong focus on developing diverse tourism products, positions the country well for continued growth. The expansion of infrastructure and new hotel openings will only enhance its appeal as a travel destination. With peace appearing to take hold in the region and the government’s ongoing investment in the tourism sector, Jordan is well on its way to solidifying its position as a top destination for global travelers.
