  • Dates: 7–9 October 2026
  • Venue: Mediterranean Conference Centre, Valletta, Malta
  • Theme: “FUTU[RE]SET: Shaping the Future of Travel & Tourism”
  • Attendance: More than 1,000 delegates from over 100 countries and 200+ leading travel and tourism CEOs and senior leaders
  • Access: WTTC describes the Global Summit as invitation-only, although individual summit sessions are made available online. WTTC has also introduced a limited Executive Access Pass for selected senior executives for the first time.

Justin Trudeau, José María Aznar and Nick Adams Lead Major Speaker Announcements

The confirmed speaker line-up brings together political leadership with the global travel industry’s commercial agenda.

Justin Trudeau, former Prime Minister of Canada, has been announced by WTTC as a headline speaker. Canada’s Prime Minister’s Office identifies Trudeau among Canada’s former prime ministers. WTTC says his participation will bring an international perspective to conversations surrounding leadership, resilience and cooperation as global travel adapts to rapid economic and technological change.

From Spain, former Prime Minister José María Aznar is another confirmed speaker. Spain’s official La Moncloa records show Aznar led the Spanish Government from 1996 to 2004. WTTC says his contribution will connect with discussions about European competitiveness, international cooperation, geopolitical change and travel and tourism’s role in linking economies and people.

WTTC has also confirmed Ambassador Nick Adams, whom the organisation describes as the United States’ first Special Presidential Envoy for Tourism and U.S. Tourism Minister. His participation places tourism diplomacy, international partnerships, investment and stronger public-private cooperation firmly within the Malta conversation.

Malta Tourism Leadership Moves to the Heart of the Global Conversation

As host country, Malta will play a major role in the summit.

The Maltese Government currently lists Jo Etienne Abela as Minister for Tourism, while Ian Borg is Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Health following Malta’s June 2026 Cabinet changes. WTTC has identified both among the senior Maltese government figures connected with the summit.

Malta Tourism Authority leadership will also be central to the event. Dr Charles Mangion is Chairman of the Malta Tourism Authority, while Carlo Micallef serves as CEO. Gloria Guevara, President and CEO of WTTC, is leading the organisation as FUTU[RE]SET focuses attention on investment, competitiveness, resilience and deeper cooperation between governments and the private sector.

A key distinction matters for accurate event coverage. As of 21 September 2026, WTTC’s public Malta summit page does not provide an hour-by-hour agenda or final session-by-session speaker assignments. The public page confirms the dates, venue and three-day summit but not precise speaking times.

That means discussions in Valletta will carry perspectives spanning Europe, North America, Latin America, Africa, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific.

Malta Tourism Surge Gives FUTU[RE]SET a Real-World Testing Ground

Malta enters the summit during a period of substantial visitor growth.

The National Statistics Office of Malta recorded 2,621,319 inbound tourists between January and July 2026, generating approximately 14.9 million nights and €2.334 billion in tourism expenditure. July alone recorded an estimated 489,494 tourists, up 20.8% year-on-year, while tourist expenditure reached €538.4 million.

WTTC separately forecasts that travel and tourism will contribute US$4.9 billion to Malta’s economy in 2026, equal to 16.9% of GDP, while supporting about 72,200 jobs. Globally, WTTC forecasts travel and tourism will contribute approximately US$12 trillion in 2026 and support 376 million jobs worldwide.

Those numbers turn Malta into more than a summit backdrop. The destination itself becomes a case study in managing tourism growth, visitor spending, investment, infrastructure, heritage and community value.
