The Mines Department is eager to protect and promote geo-heritage sites in Rajasthan as new tourism attractions. Out of 33 geo-heritage sites in the country, Rajasthan has 13 with significant academic and tourism value.

Ten of the geo-heritage sites, identified by the Geological Survey of India (GSI), are situated in Udaipur, Pali, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Bundi and Chittorgarh districts.

Additional Chief Secretary (Mines) Subodh Agarwal took notice of the value of the sites during a visit to several of them and stated that the Rajasthan government will put in order a plan for conserving and promoting these sites.

He went to see Nepheline syenite in Kishangarh, which is thought to be 1590 million to 1910 million years old and produced as a result of tectonic action.

Agarwal also went to Sendra granite, which was formed by tectonic action 900 million years ago. It has unique features such as pot holes, skeleton heads, snake heads, eagle shapes, and tor rock granitic landforms formed by weathering and erosion by water and wind.
