Myanmar has introduced a visa-free entry program for citizens of eight Asian countries, including Singapore and Thailand, as part of a strategic initiative to attract more tourists and stimulate the local economy. This policy, which extends visa-free access to citizens of Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam, allows travelers to explore Myanmar’s rich culture, historical sites, and breathtaking landscapes more easily. Visitors need only a passport with at least six months’ validity to take advantage of the new entry privilege.

Under the updated visa-free scheme, citizens of Singapore and Vietnam can visit Myanmar for up to 30 days, either for tourism or business. Singaporean travelers can enter and exit the country via any port, whether by land, air, or sea. Visitors from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, the Philippines, and Thailand, meanwhile, enjoy visa-free access for up to 14 days but must use specific entry points, including Yangon International Airport, Nay Pyi Taw International Airport, or Mandalay International Airport.

The move comes amid a rise in Myanmar’s tourism numbers. The country recorded a remarkable 78% increase in visitors in 2022 compared to the previous year, with a strong influx from neighboring countries. Historically, China has been Myanmar’s top tourist source, with 749,719 Chinese visitors in 2019, followed by 273,157 visitors from Thailand, and significant numbers from Japan and South Korea.
