Ontario is ready for a bright and spooky October. Pumpkinferno returns to Discovery Harbour in Penetanguishene from 1 to 31 October 2026. The event fills a historic waterfront site with more than 5,000 glowing artificial pumpkins. These pumpkins are called fun-kins. They create a colourful night trail for families, couples and groups of friends.
Pumpkinferno is more than a simple pumpkin display. It mixes light, history, food, entertainment and Halloween fun. Visitors can walk through glowing scenes, meet performers, try seasonal snacks and choose extra spooky experiences.
The event takes place at Discovery Harbour, on the shores of Penetanguishene Bay. This gives the festival a special setting. By day, the site tells the story of a British naval and military base from the 19th century. By night, it becomes a glowing autumn world.

A Historic Harbour Turns Into a Halloween World

Discovery Harbour is not an ordinary event space. Its story goes back to 1793, when Penetanguishene Bay was chosen as a possible naval base. After the War of 1812, the British built a naval establishment there to protect the Upper Great Lakes.
Today, the site has historic buildings, old naval stories and a waterfront location. Pumpkinferno uses this setting in a clever way. The glowing pumpkin displays sit beside old structures and dark pathways. This creates a mix of history and Halloween atmosphere.

More Than 5,000 Glowing Fun-Kins

The main attraction is the huge collection of illuminated artificial pumpkins. The displays are designed to look bright, playful and magical after dark. They are spread across the historic site and make the walking route feel like a night-time adventure.
Visitors can see themed photo spots, large pumpkin creations and glowing pathways. The site also includes Dora the Talking Skeleton, a character who shares jokes and riddles with visitors.

Walk-through visits run from Thursday to Sunday during October. The opening hours are 6pm to 10pm. General admission is C$15 per person, including tax. Children aged five and under enter free.

Pumpkinferno offers more than a gentle walk among lights. Visitors who want a stronger Halloween feeling can explore Shadowmire Park, the Spooky Path and Macabre Manor.
Shadowmire Park uses fog, sound and surprise elements to create an eerie setting. It is aimed at visitors who want more chills in their autumn outing.
Macabre Manor is set inside the historic Officers’ Quarters. The old building becomes a haunted special-effects attraction. The experience has a darker tone, so parental discretion is advised.

The event also offers premium experiences for an extra charge. Potion Craft is new for 2026. It lets visitors take part in an interactive potion-making activity. The Coffin Ride offers a short thrill for visitors aged 13 and over.
Bo’sun’s Brig Escape Room is a one-hour challenge in the old brig, or jail. It is designed for groups of four to six people. Secrets of Séance is another one-hour paid experience. It uses a Victorian-style séance setting and a costumed medium. Both are for visitors aged 12 and above, with younger guests needing a parent or guardian.

Special Nights Give Visitors More Choice

Pumpkinferno has added special themed nights for 2026. This gives visitors a reason to choose the date that fits them best.
Pup-Inferno takes place on 8 and 29 October. On these two evenings, visitors can bring their dogs on the illuminated route. The nights include dog-focused vendors, treats and support for the Midland OSPCA. Dogs are not allowed on other Pumpkinferno dates, except for service animals.
Beyond the Veil takes place on 16 October. It is designed for adults and older teenagers. Visitors who buy a Night with a Medium ticket also receive Pumpkinferno admission. The evening includes medium demonstrations, mystical vendors and a darker Halloween mood.
Mini-Monster Bash will take place on 30 October. It is aimed at children and families. Young visitors can wear costumes, collect treats, visit candy stations and take part in a costume contest for children aged 12 and under.

Drive-Through Nights Make the Event More Accessible

Not everyone can enjoy a long outdoor walk. Pumpkinferno offers drive-through nights every Wednesday in October. The 2026 dates are 7, 14, 21 and 28 October.
Visitors can see the displays from their cars or small vans. Public tour times are 7pm, 7.30pm, 8pm and 8.30pm. The journey takes about 30 minutes. Tickets cost C$13 per person, including tax.
This option is useful for community groups and visitors with mobility or sensory needs. Discovery Harbour has uneven paths, hills and sandy ground in some areas. The drive-through experience offers a practical way to enjoy the lights without walking the route.

Food Markets and Autumn Travel Spending

Pumpkinferno also supports local traders. The Pumpkinferno Night Market brings artisans and vendors to the site. Food trucks and seasonal treats add another part to the experience.
