Without a doubt, it is an extremely busy year in Panama City, as well as there are obvious statistics showing this trend. For example, during the first six months of 2026, as many as 1,755,998 tourists arrived in Panama City, which is a growth by 17.4% from the previous year. Besides, the reputation of the city as a good place for holding MICE events goes on increasing, which contributes to the fact that big numbers of people keep coming to Panama City, visiting its hotels, restaurants, transport services and entertainment facilities. MICE does not only stand aside watching what is happening around.
The first-quarter figures had already signalled a strong year.
Between January and March 2026, Panama recorded 999,934 international visitors, up 17.3% year on year and just shy of the one-million mark. Tourism activity generated more than B/.2 billion in economic circulation during those three months.
By the end of June, the country had moved well beyond that first-quarter milestone, reaching almost 1.76 million international arrivals.

The growth is important for tourism because international visitors do not simply pass through Tocumen International Airport. They generate demand for hotels, restaurants, attractions, transport, shopping and excursions across Panama City and other destinations.
Business events are becoming an increasingly important part of that visitor economy.
During the first six months of 2026, Panama hosted 74 international events, attracting more than 113,937 participants. These events generated 47,854 hotel room nights and an estimated economic impact of B/.91.55 million.
Now that is where the tourism story gets interesting.

A conference delegate may arrive for two or three days of meetings, but the trip can involve airport transfers, hotel stays, restaurants, networking events, shopping and sightseeing. Some delegates also extend their stays before or after a conference.
For Panama City, that makes MICE tourism a valuable complement to leisure travel.
The biggest event on Panama City’s 2026 MICE calendar is the 65th ICCA Congress, scheduled for 8–11 November 2026.
The event will bring together the international association meetings community, including destinations, convention bureaux, venues, hotels, professional conference organisers and event suppliers. The official event programme lists more than 1,000 business events professionals from more than 80 countries, alongside more than 100 international associations.
Other published event information places expected participation at more than 1,500 delegates, reflecting the scale of the global meetings community gathering in Panama City.
For tourism, the event represents more than four days on a conference calendar. It gives Panama City an opportunity to showcase its hotels, convention facilities, restaurants, cultural attractions and connectivity to international decision-makers who influence where future meetings are held.
The capital’s geographical position is one of its strongest tourism assets.
Tocumen International Airport connects Panama with a wide network of destinations across the Americas and beyond. The city’s location between North and South America also makes it a convenient base for regional business events.
Once delegates arrive, Panama City offers a combination of modern business districts, waterfront areas, Casco Antiguo, museums, restaurants and the Panama Canal.
That creates a useful blend for MICE travellers: business during the day and cultural, culinary or leisure experiences around the event schedule.
Panama’s destination marketing strategy is also becoming increasingly targeted.
PROMTUR has been working with industry partners and international buyers to identify potential conferences, conventions and incentive programmes. At FIEXPO Latin America in June 2026, the Panamanian delegation generated more than 200 business opportunities through meetings with buyers, associations and event organisers.
The organisation has also launched Meet in Panama NOW, an incentive initiative aimed at attracting qualifying international events during September and October 2026.
Eligible events must be new to the destination, international in character and generate at least 500 hotel nights, creating a direct connection between event acquisition and hotel demand.
MICE tourism is particularly valuable because its impact is measurable.
Panama’s confirmed international events for the remainder of 2026 are projected to bring 149,636 visitors, generate 82,498 hotel room nights and produce an estimated economic impact of approximately B/.159.68 million.
That provides hotels and tourism businesses with a significant pipeline of demand.
For visitors extending conference trips, the benefits can spread further into Panama City’s tourism ecosystem.
A delegate attending an event at the Panama Convention Centre could explore Casco Antiguo, visit the Panama Canal, dine around the city’s culinary districts or continue towards destinations elsewhere in the country.
This is where Panama City’s tourism model becomes particularly interesting.
Business travellers and leisure travellers are not necessarily separate groups.
A conference visitor can become a leisure visitor before returning home. A corporate group can add excursions. An international association can return for another event.
That creates repeat tourism opportunities and gives Panama more chances to convert business exposure into leisure demand.
January–March 2026 — Panama records 999,934 international visitors, up 17.3% year on year.
January–June 2026 — International arrivals reach 1,755,998, while 74 international events attract more than 113,937 participants.
June 2026 — Panama promotes its MICE offering at FIEXPO Latin America and generates more than 200 business opportunities.
September–October 2026 — PROMTUR’s Meet in Panama NOW initiative targets additional international events.
8–11 November 2026 — The 65th ICCA Congress takes place in Panama City.
Panama City works particularly well for travellers combining business and leisure.
The city offers direct access to major attractions such as the Panama Canal and Casco Antiguo, while its international airport provides connections across the Americas and other global markets.
MICE travellers planning additional leisure time can use Panama City as a base before adding destinations such as Boquete, Bocas del Toro, Azuero or Guna Yala to a longer itinerary.
1. How many international visitors did Panama receive in the first half of 2026?
Panama recorded 1,755,998 international visitors between January and June 2026, an increase of 17.4% year on year.
2. What is the ICCA Congress 2026?
It is the 65th ICCA Congress, a major international meetings-industry gathering taking place in Panama City from 8–11 November 2026.
3. Why is MICE tourism important for Panama City?
International conferences generate hotel stays, visitor spending and demand for restaurants, transport, attractions and other tourism services.
January–March 2026 — Panama approaches one million international visitors.
January–June 2026 — International arrivals reach 1.76 million.
June 2026 — Panama strengthens international MICE business development at FIEXPO Latin America.
September–October 2026 — Meet in Panama NOW targets additional qualifying events.
8–11 November 2026 — ICCA World Congress takes place in Panama City.
Panama City is entering the second half of 2026 with two tourism engines running together: strong international visitor growth and an expanding MICE calendar.
The numbers already show the scale. International arrivals are up 17.4%, dozens of major events have generated more than 113,000 participants, and the ICCA World Congress is bringing the global meetings industry to the capital in November. For tourism, that combination creates a powerful cycle. Business events fill hotel rooms and bring international visitors into the city, while Panama’s culture, cuisine, canal and wider destinations provide opportunities to turn conference trips into longer leisure journeys.
