Image generated with AiThe Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA), in partnership with the Sarawak Tourism Board (STB), will launch an innovative AI-focused training programme aimed at empowering small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Sarawak’s tourism industry. The programme, titled “AI-Driven Transformation: Empowering Sarawak’s Tourism SMEs,” is set to take place in Kuching from October 29 to November 1, 2024.
PATA’s Chief Executive Officer, Noor Ahmad Hamid, announced that this initiative will provide practical training to help tourism businesses in Sarawak harness the power of artificial intelligence to enhance their capabilities. The goal is to drive innovation, increase competitiveness, and promote sustainability in the global tourism market by equipping local businesses with AI tools that can streamline operations and deliver personalized customer experiences.
Noor Ahmad emphasized that while AI offers immense potential, many SMEs need targeted training to bridge the gap between understanding AI concepts and applying them in real-world scenarios. This programme aligns with PATA’s broader Strategy 2030, which prioritizes digital transformation and sustainable development.
STB Chairman, Datuk Dennis Ngau, echoed this sentiment, noting that technological adoption is essential for Sarawak’s tourism industry to remain competitive. “By offering accessible AI training, we aim to ensure Sarawak’s tourism SMEs remain relevant and appealing to the increasingly tech-savvy global market,” said Dennis.
