Passenger traffic at Athens Airport fully recovered its pre-pandemic levels on the 18th of November 2023 at 25.57 mio PAX. It thus reached new highs from this day onwards.
Athens recovered and further grew by 20.1 mio PAX in less than 36 months.
Passenger traffic at Athens Airport surpassed previous record of 2019 by 10.2%. It is resulting in 2.6 million additional PAX.
In the early years, Athens PAX traffic increased from the opening in 2002 to 16.54 mio PAX in 2007.
It reached a low 12.54 in 2013 as a result of the Macro Economic situation at the time.
From 2014 onwards, Athens recorded year-on-year strong growth in PAX traffic.
It reached 25.57 in 2019, making this a record year at the time.
With the outbreak of the pandemic, traffic dropped to 8.08 mio in 2020, recording spectacular recovery rates in the following years.
Analytically, domestic and international passengers surpassed the 2022 levels by 18.9% and 26.4%.
It is also exceeding the 2019 levels by 13.3% and 8.8%, respectively.
The number of flights amounted to 241,604, i.e. 13.2% above the 2022 levels and 7.1% above the respective 2019 levels.
Both domestic and international flights were above the 2022 volumes by 7.4% and 18.1% in comparison with the 2019 levels the observed growth was at the level of 10.5% and 4.6%, respectively.
