Penang Convention & Exhibition Bureau launches the 8th India Roadshow, unveiling direct flights, visa-free travel, and incredible opportunities for Indian travelers.

The Penang Convention & Exhibition Bureau (PCEB) is set to launch the 8th Penang Roadshow in India, scheduled from January 13 to 20, 2025, with the theme “Discover Penang.” This annual initiative, which began in 2017, underscores PCEB’s strong commitment to the Indian market, a significant driver of Penang’s tourism and business events industries.

The roadshow will make stops in four key Indian citis—Mumbai (January 13), New Delhi (January 15), Kolkata (January 17), and Chennai (January 20)—engaging around 200 buyers and 30 media representatives at each location.

A key highlight of this year’s event will be the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between PCEB and EaseMyTrip (EMT) on January 15 in New Delhi. This collaboration aims to enhance Penang’s presence in the Indian market through innovative campaigns, expanded travel opportunities, and joint promotional efforts.

IndiGo’s Direct Flight Connects Penang and Chennai

This edition of the roadshow celebrates the introduction of a direct IndiGo flight connecting Penang and Chennai, simplifying travel and creating new avenues for tourism and business. Chennai’s advantageous position as a hub provides convenient access to Penang for travelers from 32 Indian citis, including Bengaluru, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Delhi.

Visa-Free Entry for Indian Travelers

Adding further convenience, Malaysia has extended its visa-free entry policy for Indian nationals until December 31, 2026. This initiative allows Indian travelers to enjoy visa-free access to Malaysia for up to 30 days, encouraging more visitors to explore Penang’s unique attractions.

In 2024, Malaysia welcomed over 1 million Indian tourists, reflecting a remarkable 71.7% increase compared to 2023. Penang alone hosted 1,900 events, attracting 296,630 delegates and generating an economic impact of approximately RM 1.27 billion.
