This holiday season, the tourist destinations of Queensland are witnessing a “relatively strong” demand but as COVID-19 cases are increasing, testing requirements and quarantine rules are damaging thousands of businesses, industry leaders say.

Usually, for tourism operators in Queensland, it’s the busiest time of the year.

The reopening of international borders in Queensland has given new life into the battling regional tourism industry over the Christmas with more than 666,000 applications processed to enter the state from hotspots since December 13.
Recently at Noosa, a sea of cabanas and umbrellas has packed its beaches, as tourists take over the upmarket coastal community.

Sue Willis, managing director of Noosa Niche Luxury Accommodation, explained that Noosa was “absolutely buzzing”
“We’ve been absolutely flat out … we are full and looking like we will be full for the next 12 months,” Ms Willis said.
