Mexico, Jamaica and more destinations accelerate AI adoption as tourism enters a new digital era across the Americas, changing how travellers plan, search and explore. As tourism enters a new digital era, governments are using AI, Big Data, travel apps and virtual assistants to guide visitors and improve destination management across the Americas. The shift matters because travellers increasingly expect instant help, trusted information and easier planning. Across the Americas, this digital change is making tourism more connected, responsive and personalised today.

AI Tourism Across the Americas at a Glance

At least 10 countries examined here have official government-backed programmes involving AI, Big Data, smart destinations or advanced digital-tourism infrastructure. However, the systems are not identical. Argentina, Peru, Chile, Colombia, Uruguay and Jamaica offer particularly clear traveller-facing applications, while Venezuela, Mexico, Brazil and Canada are also developing or operating wider AI, data and smart-tourism systems.

Venezuela Pushes AI and Big Data Into Tourism Management

Venezuela placed technology firmly on its tourism agenda during September 2026. On 24 September, the Ministry of Tourism said artificial intelligence and Big Data could be used to measure visitor flows, understand traveller motivations, track consumption preferences and assess tourism’s impact on communities. On 25 September, MINTUR called for digital platforms and AI to support destination search and optimisation. A further update on 26 September said Venezuela was moving towards greater digitalisation and automation of tourism, with an emphasis on making destinations easier for travellers to discover through mobile technology.

Argentina Uses AI to Build Personalised Trips Across the Country

Argentina moved directly into traveller-facing AI in May 2026. The national government announced an AI-powered Visit Argentina travel planner capable of creating personalised itineraries according to travellers’ interests and available time. Users can choose interests such as culture, gastronomy, wine, nature, wellness, adventure, snow and urban experiences. Importantly, the system incorporates destinations across all 24 Argentine jurisdictions, allowing the platform to promote travel beyond the country’s most internationally recognised destinations. This gives Argentina a national AI tourism-planning system rather than a tool restricted to one city or tourism region.

Peru Brings Generative AI Directly Into Peru Travel

Peru launched one of the region’s clearest national AI tourism services on 7 April 2026. MINCETUR and PROMPERÚ integrated an AI virtual travel assistant directly into the official Peru.travel platform. The system uses generative AI and data analysis to communicate with users in real time, create itineraries and provide personalised recommendations based on traveller interests. PROMPERÚ says the assistant is available 24 hours a day and can help visitors explore new regions and routes beyond conventional tourism circuits. Peru’s government described it as South America’s first official conversational AI travel assistant integrated into a national tourism platform.

Chile Travel App Takes AI Assistance Onto Travellers’ Phones

Chile added another major development in September 2026. The country’s Subsecretaría de Turismo announced the new Chile Travel App on 21 September. The free application integrates tourism attractions, itineraries and services registered with SERNATUR. It combines artificial intelligence, geolocation and personalised content and operates in Spanish and English. Its AI assistant can answer common travel questions in real time, while geolocation helps users identify attractions, accommodation, restaurants and tourism services around their current position. Official emergency numbers are also integrated into the application, making it both a planning and in-destination travel tool.

Colombia Combines AI Travel Assistance With Tourism Intelligence

Colombia is connecting consumer-facing AI with national destination data. The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism introduced ColombIA under its Turismo 4.0 programme. The virtual tourism assistant is designed to work through WhatsApp in more than 80 languages, connecting travellers with destinations, formal tourism companies and service providers. Colombia has also introduced Observatur360, an innovation observatory intended to turn tourism data into strategic information supporting the country’s 32 departments. Together, these systems show how AI can serve travellers directly while tourism authorities use digital intelligence for planning and management.

Uruguay Uses AI to Create More Personalised Tourism Experiences

Uruguay’s Ministry of Tourism highlighted Itinerarios Vivos as part of its tourism promotion activity at FITUR 2026. Initially implemented in Montevideo, the platform uses artificial intelligence to personalise visitor experiences. The Montevideo government says the digital tool can combine personalised journeys with verified tourism information, immersive 360-degree suggestions, opening times, events, transport information, attractions, gastronomy and self-guided routes. It was introduced as part of Montevideo’s 2026 tourism campaign and complements other digital visitor tools. This puts Uruguay among the countries using AI not simply to market destinations but to shape individual traveller journeys.

Mexico Builds AI and Big Data Into Smart Tourism Destinations

Mexico’s digital transformation follows a broader destination-management model. The Secretariat of Tourism says its Smart Tourism Destination approach uses technologies including Artificial Intelligence and Big Data, alongside mobile applications and interactive visitor guides. Mexico’s official PROSECTUR 2025–2030 also calls for an integrated Smart Destinations strategy and a geointelligence platform capable of generating tourism Big Data to support decision-making. This approach is less about one national chatbot and more about creating technology-enabled destinations where government, tourism businesses and travellers can interact through stronger digital infrastructure.

Jamaica Keeps AI Visitor Assistance Available Around the Clock

Jamaica already has an operational AI tourism service. According to the Government of Jamaica’s Ministry of Tourism, the Jamaica Tourist Board uses an AI-powered chatbot as a virtual travel specialist on VisitJamaica.com. The system offers 24-hour visitor assistance, can transfer users to a human agent and communicates in 10 languages. The government has also highlighted AI’s role in tourism analytics and understanding traveller preferences. Jamaica’s wider tourism technology environment includes more than 100 automated passport-control kiosks and 15 e-Gates installed at Kingston and Montego Bay international airports by the end of 2024.

Brazil and Canada Broaden the Digital Tourism Transformation

Brazil formally approved its Tourism Innovation and Competitiveness Programme in April 2026. It includes a Digital Transformation in Tourism project, a simplified Smart Tourism Destination model and plans for a digital platform supporting Brazilian destinations. The programme also promotes standardised tourism-data collection and smarter destination management.

Canada already operates the Canadian Tourism Data Collective, developed by Destination Canada with Statistics Canada and Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada. Destination Canada describes the platform as using data, analytics and AI to support tourism decision-making across businesses, communities and governments.

AI Is Becoming Part of the Tourism Journey Across the Americas

The official evidence shows a clear regional shift. Venezuela is developing AI and Big Data for destination management and promotion. Argentina and Peru are personalising trip planning. Chile is putting AI directly into a national travel app. Colombia combines multilingual traveller assistance with national tourism intelligence. Uruguay builds personalised itineraries. Mexico and Brazil are developing smarter destinations, Jamaica offers round-the-clock AI visitor assistance, and Canada is applying AI to national tourism data.

Mexico, Jamaica and more destinations are accelerating AI adoption because tourism across the Americas is becoming more digital, personalised and data-driven. The new digital era is being powered by AI assistants, Big Data, smart destination systems and mobile travel tools that help visitors plan trips and find trusted information faster. Mexico is strengthening smart tourism infrastructure, while Jamaica provides round-the-clock AI visitor support. Other destinations are adding similar tools for planning, promotion and management. The result is clear: tourism across the Americas is entering a new digital era because destinations want simpler journeys, better decisions and stronger visitor experiences today.
