Tourism Workers Pension Scheme in Jamaica

The Jamaica Tourism Ministry opined that 8,000 hospitality staffsare providing for theTourism Workers Pension Scheme. There are $550 million in donations till now.


Edmund Bartlett, the Portfolio Minister, said this during April 18Sectoral Debate in the House of Representatives.


The Jamaican government has pledged more than $1 billion for this arrangement, and the final portion of $50 million would be paid during the new financial year.


Bartlett said that in the course of five years, when the first unit of recipients will arrive, that supply would have touched more than $10 billion. Then they will get to see a pool of reserveshappening that will remain there for investments, so that they can achieveprogress.


The Tourism Workers Pension Scheme was startedlast year. The scheme was meant toencompass all employeesassociated with the tourism division, irrespective of their workposition or age, and it comprises hotel employees, craft sellers, tour workers, red-cap porters, agreement carriage workers and those working at various attractions.
