UAE travel and education boom: International student numbers surge

At Middlesex University Dubai, enrolment grew by 12 per cent in 2025 to surpass 6,400 students, with international admissions rising by 39 per cent. Al Mutairi attributed this to the quality of education, visa flexibility, and the wider lifestyle appeal of the Emirates.

He also emphasised that the UAE’s combination of job opportunities, affordable housing, and personal safety has helped create a positive image among students from around the world.

Additionally, according to updates from the UAE Ministry of Higher Education & Scientific Research, admission processes have been streamlined and paperwork for degree recognition reduced, as part of the federal government’s ongoing “zero bureaucracy” reforms.

Within Dubai, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) reported a 20 per cent rise in university enrolments during the 2024-25 academic year, taking total numbers to 42,026 students across licensed private universities.
International students now account for roughly 35 per cent of this figure — a notable jump compared with the previous year.

Courses in business, IT, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity are among the most in-demand, driven by strong employer demand for graduates with advanced technical skills.

They also revealed that the group is in the final stages of its IPO process on the Saudi stock exchange and is collaborating with UK institutions like Heriot-Watt University to establish campuses in Saudi Arabia.

The company has also begun integrating artificial intelligence in learning environments, particularly in special needs education centres in Riyadh, where AI tools are used to measure student progress. Al Mutairi noted that when applied responsibly, AI can be an invaluable support mechanism in education.
