UN Women partners with Kerala tourism to empower women

A United Nations body – UN Women, has partnered with Kerala Tourism to encourage the Women-Friendly Tourism effort introduced by the State government.

It’s a two-day orientation program for women organized to focus on a wide range of activities related to tourism in which women can play a vital role.


The trainer of trainers program was organized at Kumarakom Cultural Centre. The state’s responsible tourism mission had arranged this program.


A total of 85 women trainers took part in the program. These women in turn will train other women associated with tourism initiatives and related services in various regions of the State. In a series of training programs, this was the second, planned by RT Mission, including all regions of Kerala.


The program concluded on August 1 st . It turned out to be a discussion forum where people shared their experiences, entrepreneurs and professionals talked about the way a whole range of tourism activities
could be conducted successfully, making the stay a unique experience for the visitors staying in Kerala.


P.A. Mohamed Riyas, Tourism Minister, said that the training sessions would help speed up the development of Women-Friendly Tourism and draw greater number of women tourists to the state. In addition, the government is all set to create a favorable atmosphere for women to come to Kerala as a solo tourist or in groups.
