Uzbekistan’s Tourism Achievements in 2024 and Vision for 2025: A Focus on Sustainable Growth and Global Recognition

Uzbekistan’s tourism sector experienced significant progress in 2024, marked by a surge in international arrivals, infrastructure development, and global recognition. The country welcomed 10.2 million foreign tourists, generating $3.5 billion in tourism revenue—an impressive 1.5-fold increase from 2023. Key markets contributing to the growth included China (+80%), Italy (+50%), India (+60%), and Germany (+20%).

Domestic tourism also flourished, with 22.7 million visits recorded under the ‘Travel Around Uzbekistan!’ initiative. The tourism industry also saw the establishment of 866 new travel agencies, bringing the total number to 3,686. Moreover, the country invested in developing skilled tourism professionals by training 700 new certified guides, increasing the national total to 3,200 licensed tour guides.

Uzbekistan actively enhanced its global tourism presence in 2024 through various strategic media partnerships and participation in international expos. The country collaborated with prestigious platforms like BBC, CNN, and National Geographic, boosting its visibility. Partnerships with online travel agencies such as Ctrip and Holiday Factory further expanded its reach.

Additionally, Uzbekistan participated in 22 international travel fairs across 19 countries and organized ‘Road Shows’ in key markets like China, Iran, the UK, and Malaysia. A key highlight was the launch of the “Year of Uzbekistan Tourism in China” in December 2024, followed by roadshows in major Chinese cities like Xi’an and Shanghai.

Regional Tourism Integration

Uzbekistan played a leading role in the ‘Central Asian Tourist Ring’ project, aimed at increasing the length of visitors’ stays in the region. The Tashkent International Tourism Fair (TITF) 2024 attracted over 20,000 visitors and exhibitors from countries including Georgia, Kazakhstan, and India.

International Recognition and Awards

Uzbekistan’s tourism achievements were recognized globally in 2024. Notable accolades include the UN World Tourism Organization’s ranking of Uzbekistan as the “Second Best Destination” for tourism revenue growth and the World Economic Forum’s recognition of Uzbekistan as the most active country in tourism development. The country also won the ‘Best Developing Destination’ award at the Wanderlust Reader Travel Awards.

Vision for 2025: The Year of Tourism

Building on its 2024 success, Uzbekistan aims to achieve ambitious tourism goals in 2025. The Uzbekistan Tourism Strategy 2040 will guide the country’s sustainable tourism growth. Strategic priorities include expanding the hospitality infrastructure, increasing the number of travel agencies, and launching targeted marketing campaigns for the USA and China.

Additionally, the country plans to host over 20 cultural events in China and CIS countries in celebration of the “Year of Uzbekistan Tourism.”

Uzbekistan expects 11 million international tourist arrivals and $3.8 billion in tourism revenues in 2025. The country is committed to becoming a premier global travel destination by focusing on robust infrastructure development and sustainable tourism practices.
