The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) and the Global Business Travel Association (GBTA) have come up with an association to improve the corporate travel and business events section of PATA Travel Mart 2027, which will be taking place in Macao, China, between 20-22 September 2027. The objective of this partnership is to facilitate connections among global corporate travel buyers, travel management experts, tourism providers and destination authorities through one of the most reputable travel market places of the Asia-Pacific region. This partnership will lead to creating strong business relationships and increasing the presence of buyers.
This partnership has been established at the PTM Knowledge Forum held in PATA Travel Mart 2026 held in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia. This is a very important step towards making the upcoming edition of PATA Travel Mart a business-oriented platform. The MOU was signed by the CEO of PATA, Noor Ahmad Hamid, and GBTA’s Senior Director – APAC Elle Ng-Darmawan on 18 August 2026.

Under the new agreement, GBTA will become the Strategic Corporate Travel Partner for PATA Travel Mart 2027, connecting its extensive international network of corporate buyers and travel professionals with PATA’s established Asia-Pacific tourism marketplace. The partnership is designed to increase engagement between travel suppliers and corporate decision-makers, creating a stronger platform for businesses seeking new partnerships, destinations and travel solutions. Corporate travel continues to represent an important part of the global tourism economy, supporting international trade, investment, meetings and professional mobility.
By strengthening the corporate travel element of PATA Travel Mart, the event aims to provide greater value for tourism organisations and private sector suppliers across the region. The collaboration will focus on several key areas, including programme development, corporate buyer participation, knowledge sharing and targeted business-to-business networking. Through these initiatives, participants will have more opportunities to understand changing business travel trends, explore new market opportunities and build long-term commercial relationships.

The upcoming PATA Travel Mart 2027 in Macao is expected to highlight the growing importance of Asia-Pacific as a global hub for tourism, business travel and international events. Macao’s position as a major tourism destination, combined with its strong hospitality infrastructure and international connectivity, makes it a strategic location for hosting global travel professionals. The event will bring together tourism suppliers, buyers, industry stakeholders and corporate travel experts from across Asia-Pacific and international markets. The partnership with GBTA is expected to increase participation from corporate travel communities and strengthen the event’s role as a platform for commercial exchange.
For destinations and tourism businesses, the expanded corporate travel focus provides an opportunity to showcase products and services directly to qualified buyers responsible for managing business travel programmes. This approach reflects the changing nature of the travel industry, where destinations are increasingly looking beyond leisure tourism and developing stronger strategies for business events, corporate meetings and professional travel markets.
The involvement of GBTA brings significant expertise and access to the global business travel community. As one of the world’s leading organisations representing corporate travel professionals, GBTA connects travel managers, suppliers, buyers and industry stakeholders across international markets. Through the partnership, GBTA will use its professional network and communication channels to encourage participation from qualified corporate buyers at PATA Travel Mart 2027. The organisation will also contribute to the development of corporate travel content within the PTM Knowledge Forum, helping provide insights into market trends, industry challenges and future opportunities.
The collaboration reflects the growing importance of knowledge exchange in the travel sector. Corporate travel professionals are increasingly seeking information on sustainability, technology, efficiency, traveller experience and changing business requirements. By combining PATA’s regional tourism expertise with GBTA’s corporate travel knowledge, the partnership aims to create a more comprehensive industry platform.

The partnership comes at a time when Asia-Pacific continues to strengthen its position as one of the world’s most important business travel regions. According to GBTA’s 2026 Business Travel Index, the Asia-Pacific market represents a major driver of global business travel spending, reflecting the region’s economic growth, expanding business connections and increasing international mobility. The continued expansion of business travel across Asia-Pacific creates opportunities for destinations, hotels, airlines, convention centres and tourism businesses.
As companies rebuild international travel programmes and expand cross-border operations, demand for efficient business travel solutions continues to increase. The partnership between PATA and GBTA is expected to support this growth by connecting industry suppliers with corporate buyers who influence travel decisions for organisations worldwide. For Asia-Pacific destinations, stronger corporate travel engagement can help diversify tourism economies and create more balanced visitor demand throughout the year.
The collaboration between PATA and GBTA will also support the wider development of the MICE tourism sector across Asia-Pacific. Meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions contribute significantly to destination economies by attracting high-value visitors, generating business opportunities and supporting hospitality industries. Corporate buyers attending PATA Travel Mart 2027 will gain opportunities to discover new destinations, accommodation options, event venues and travel services suitable for business needs.
At the same time, suppliers will benefit from direct access to decision-makers responsible for corporate travel planning and procurement. The partnership aims to create meaningful connections between different parts of the travel ecosystem, including airlines, hotels, destination management organisations, technology providers and corporate travel specialists. This stronger integration can help destinations develop products that better meet the evolving expectations of business travellers.
This cooperation between PATA and GBTA can be viewed as a wider attempt at collaboration within the international tourism sector, which seeks to open up new channels of growth for businesses. It is through combining the experience of PATA in Asia-Pacific tourism and the expertise of GBTA in the global corporate travel market that the partnership seeks to create a more interconnected and commercially beneficial PATA Travel Mart 2027.
From the perspective of the Asia-Pacific travel industry, the partnership shows the growing significance of corporate travel as one of the key drivers of tourism development and economic connectivity. Given the ongoing changes within the realm of international business travel, those projects aimed at connecting destinations and corporate clients would prove crucial for the future of international mobility. It is also notable that PATA Travel Mart 2027, scheduled to take place in Macao on 20–22 September, is expected to become an important event for tourism and corporate travel professionals from all over the world.
