South Africa Gains More France Flights as Air France Restores Cape Town–Paris Direct Service

South africa gains more france flights as air france restores cape town–paris direct service

New service provides more options between south Europe and southern Africa The Cape Town-Paris service will provide added choice for travellers operating between south Europe and southern Africa in the 2026-27 season. This becomes more crucial from November, when five weekly frequencies provide an increased level of flexibility for passengers to choose a departure day that suit. For Cape Town it increases direct connectivity with an important European city centre at a premium part of the tourist season.

For passengers departing South Africa, Paris offers a destination in its own right or can be a valuable connection to other international markets.

When Will Air France Resume Cape Town–Paris Flights

Air France will restart direct Cape Town–Paris operations on 22 September 2026, initially scheduling three flights each week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Under the announced schedule, flights will leave Cape Town at 12:15am and reach Paris-Charles de Gaulle at 12:15pm. The seasonal operation will continue through 27 March 2027, covering much of Cape Town’s spring and summer visitor period.

The connection also builds on Air France-KLM’s established presence in Cape Town. Cape Town Tourism identifies Air France-KLM as an important airline partner and notes the group’s wider role in connecting the city with European markets.

How Will the Schedule Change from November

Air France plans a substantial capacity increase from 1 November 2026, when the Cape Town–Paris service rises from three to five flights per week.

Flights will then operate every day except Tuesdays and Thursdays. Departures from Cape Town will move to 8:30am, with scheduled arrival at Paris-Charles de Gaulle at 7:20pm.

The additional frequencies will give leisure and business travellers more flexibility when organising journeys between South Africa and France. They will also improve opportunities for passengers continuing beyond Paris through Air France’s wider international network.

Travellers should nevertheless confirm schedules when booking and again shortly before departure because airlines can adjust seasonal timetables for operational or commercial reasons.

Why Does the Route Matter for Cape Town Tourism

The restored service increases direct international connectivity during a strategically important period for Cape Town’s visitor economy.

Cape Town Tourism describes the city as a major international destination combining beaches, biodiversity, food, wine, cultural attractions and the landscape surrounding Table Mountain. Its official 2026–27 visitor resources also provide destination maps and planning information covering the city centre, Cape Peninsula, museums and coastal areas.

Air connectivity plays a particularly important role for long-haul destinations such as Cape Town because direct services can reduce journey complexity and eliminate intermediate connections.

Cape Town Tourism strengthened its relationship with Air France-KLM South Africa through a memorandum of understanding announced in February 2026. The tourism organisation said airline partnerships support international visibility, visitor growth and the wider economic contribution generated by tourism.

Airports Company South Africa has also previously identified Paris and Air France within Cape Town International Airport’s international route-development activity.

What Should Travellers Know Before Flying to Paris

Passengers travelling from Cape Town to Paris should check French entry requirements according to their nationality, passport and purpose of travel rather than assuming the same rules apply to every passenger.

France’s Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs advises foreign visitors to confirm whether they require a visa through France-Visas, the French government’s official visa portal. Travellers may also need documentation demonstrating the purpose of their visit, accommodation arrangements and sufficient financial resources when entering France.

Passengers connecting at Paris-Charles de Gaulle should also examine the entry or transit requirements applicable to their complete itinerary, particularly when continuing to another country.

What Should France-Based Travellers Know About Visiting Cape Town

French passport holders travelling to South Africa for tourism for fewer than 90 days do not currently need to obtain a visa in advance, according to France’s Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs.

Their passports must contain at least two blank pages and remain valid for at least 30 days beyond their planned departure from South Africa. Travellers who do not satisfy these passport requirements can face refusal of entry.

South Africa also introduced an online declaration requirement from 1 July 2026 covering goods, currency and other relevant items carried by people entering or leaving the country. The requirement applies to foreign visitors as well as South African citizens and residents, making it an important additional pre-travel check for passengers using the restored route.
